Superintendent’s Report Shows Nearly Half-Million for Buildings Close to a half million dollars in purchase of grounds, erection of buildings and addition; was spent in the school systems through Lake county in the year just closed it is shown in the annual report of T. A. Simpson, county superintendent of schools, which is prepared tor the state. The Waukegan Township high: school spent $19,921 in improvements? under this heading and the clemen-i tary school system in Waukegan spent $40,033. The total for the county was $385,854. During the year the high school retired $41,000 in bonds and $40,155 in interest while in the elementary system $31,000 in bonds were paid off and $27,870 in interest. During the year the high school issued $389,- 321 in tax anticipation warrants and the graded schools $398,503. Tax county totaled $951,790. A year ago anticipation warrants for the entire the high school drew $424,207 on war- rants of this type and the elementary school 8391.739. ' n Teachers Get $1,380,885 Total salaries paid to all teache a of the county ran to $1,380,155 against $1,334,689 a year ago. There are 709 teachers- in the county in- stead of 680 as there were a year ago which accounts fur the increase. The census, which is inaccurate and seldom up to date, is shown to be 38,331 for all persons under the age of 21 in the county.
