Louis Hasselmans will be the conductor, A double bill has been prepared for Saturday night, Aug. 30, this being the dainty and amusing Italian opera "The Secret of Suzanne" which will suited to the interpretation of this work. Mme. Elisabeth Rethberg will be cast as Elsa, a role in which her reputation is international, while Edâ€" ward Johnson will have the name part. Others in this cast are Mme. Claussen, Mr. Defrere, Mr. D‘Angelo and Mr. Cehanovsky. Mr. Hasselmans will conduct. be followed by DaFalla‘s colorful Spanish work, "La Vida Breve." This double bill is always of supreme <inâ€" terest at Ravinia not only because the works included in it are both of unâ€" usual worth, but likewise because Mme. Lucrezia Bori sings the role of Suzanne in "The Secret of Suzanne" and that of Salud, the gypsy girl, in "La Vida Breve." These roles are in diametrical contrast to each other and in presenting them both on the same evening, Mme. Bori accomplishes one of the outstanding feats of operatic performance. . Armand Tokatyan will appear opposite® Mme. Bori in both operas being Count Gil in "The Secret of Suzanne" and Paco in "La Vida Breve." Automobile license fees collected in the first seven months of 1930 by the Automobile department of Secretary of State William J. Stratton‘s office will build 600 miles of hard surfaced pavement. On August 1 the license fees colâ€" lected were $17,861,452 which will pay for 600 miles of pavement at the figure of slightly less than $30,000 a mile which the state now is paying. Under state law, all of the collecâ€" tions of the automobile department of the Secretary of State‘s office are paid into the road fund in the state treasury. f The license fee total on August 1 was $1,508,000 more than the collecâ€" tions on the same date last year. .. Auto License Fees to Build Many Miles of Highway, Says Report An increase in all classes of regisâ€" trations, except dealers, was responâ€" sible for the large fee increase. Pasâ€" senger cars increased from 1,332,862 on August 1, 1929 to 1,372,17 on August 1, 1930. The difference is 39,855. The truck increase was 5,â€" 875. The increase in motorcycles was 363 and 5,486 now are being operâ€" ated in Illinois. Trailers increased from 4,111 to 5,881. The August 1 report shows an inâ€" crease of $390,000 in the collections of the corporation department of the Secretary of State‘s office. . The colâ€" lections of this department on August 1 of this year were $3,661,000 as compared with $3,270,000 on the same datelast year.
