Clavey and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Williams, Mr. and Mrs. R. Greenslade were among the supper guests at the E. J. Bingham home in Irving Park on Sunday. Miss Ruby Crumme of Columbus, Ohio, was a guest of Miss Clara Enâ€" der on Wednesday. Mrs. James Murray of Central Ave. left Sunday evening to spend several weeks at the home of her son in Toledo, Ohio. Mrs. E. L. Clavey was hostess to her bridge club at her home on Tuesâ€" day afternoon. Mrs. Chas. Steiner attended the convention of the Grand Chapter O. E. S. at the Medinah Temple last week. Mrs. W. Gauntlet entertained her bridge club on last Wednesday afâ€" ternoon. On Friday evening October 17 at 6:30 o‘clock, the scouts of troop 52 and their fathers will be entertained at dinner at the Presbyterian church. Mrs. W. C. Koebelin is in charge of the arrangements. Sugden spoke on the subject of "Diphtheria." en Dr. Sugden, who has made cavreful study of diphtheria recommends the toxinâ€"anti toxin, which will give positive protection against the disâ€" ease and is a simple, harmless treatâ€" ment given in three injections, one week apart. Friends Night to Be Held October Mrs. George Pettis, oracle, is very anxious to have a large attendance. Members are again reminded of the convention to be held at Grays Lake on Wednesday, October 22, and are urged to attend. A. J. Montavon, proprietor of the Green Tree Inn at West Lake Forest is making preparations to open & restaurant where the Deerfield Cafe is now located in the very near fuâ€" ture. Mr. C. Fehr, present proprieâ€" tor is planning to continue his busiâ€" ness in the Zeiss block three doors north of ‘Deerfield Pharmacy on Waukegan Rd. One hundred and fifty were served and about fifty were turned away. The ladies are very grateful for the wonderful support received. ‘The chicken supper served by the ladies of the Bethichem Evangelical church on last Friday evening was a decided success. 150 Attend Supper at Rethlchem Church 23 Building & Loan . Increases Assets 100% It is announced that, for the Ascal year ending September 30 last, the assets of the Deerfield Building & Loan Association increased 100%, totaling in excess of $50,000, comâ€" pared with slightly less than $25,000 assets on September 30, 1929, The receipts of the mssociation are derived larg&@y from the monthly savings deposits of the share holdâ€" ers, such deposits ranging from $5.00 to $50.00 per month per member, A deposit of $25,00 per month cumuâ€" lates to a total of $5,000.00 when the shares mature in about eleven years, illustrating the well known advanâ€" tage of systematic saving and comâ€" pound interest. All funds of the association are inâ€" vested in first mortgages on conservaâ€" tively appraised North Shore homes. Ownership of Building & Loan shares affords ‘an excellent opportunity to combine safe investment of monthly savings at a remunerative rate of inâ€" terest. As a result of the loans which the association has been able to make on favorable terms to home builders and home owners, it is playing an imporâ€" tant part in the development of the community and the rapid growth in assets, together with the caliber of men back of the association, indicates that it will be a constantly increasâ€" ing factor in the community‘s growth. Shares in the association are open for subscription only twice a year, the seventh series being open during the current month, and the directors report a large number of inquiries from prospective new members. Card Party to Be Held Next Thursday The Altar and Rosary Society of the Holy Cross church will sponsor a card party on Thursday evening, October 23 at 8 o‘clock. Mrg. L, Golden is chairman of arâ€" rangements. It will be a progressive party and many lovely prizes will be awarded and refreshments served. This is the sccond of a series of parties to be held during the winter season. The Deerfield Cafe, conducted by Mr. and Mrs, Fehr, will shortly reâ€" move to a new location on Waukegan road, a few doors north of Deerfield road, where they will be glad to welâ€" come their many patrons and friends.
