Thursday, October 30, 1930 The regular monthly meeting of the Highland Park W. C. T. U. was held last Wednesday at the Y. W. C A, Mrs. Scott Durand of Lake Forest was the speaker. Mrs. John Horn opened the meet- ing by singing two beautiful selec- tions, after which Mrs. Dumnd spoke, She recalled her own part in the Struggle before prohibition to drive saloons and blind pigs out of the nearby suburbs. Mrs. Durand Speaks at W.C.T.U. Meeting Held Here Last Week In refuting the claims of those who desire the repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment and who charge the criminal lawlessness of today to pro- hibition she referred to the 90's and the early 100s' which presented a spectacle of boodle gangs. corrupt politicians, arrangements between saloons, politicians and judges which everyone knew were instigated by the licensed liquor traffie. She recalled how the liquor busi- ness provided the facilities in the city of Chicago for breeding murderers, robbers and thieves of the worst kind.
