Thursday, Dec..18, 1930 VOTE ON SANITARY _ ; . BOND ISSUE DEC. 20 : of their residents. We can no longer shut our eyes to the pollution going into the lake at the present time. Rockford, Peoria, Springfield, Aurâ€" ora, Urbanaâ€"Champaign, Bloomington, Wheaton, Decatur, Elgin, Galesburg and many other cities all have plants of the character proposed to be built here or are now building the same. There is no reason why the north shore should lag behind these other communities. The North Shore Sanitary district proposes to accomplish the removal of pollution from Lake Michigan by the following: means: ~~Plants to Be Erected (a) The construction of new moâ€" dern sewage treatment plants at the following places: Place â€". Estimated Cost Winthrop Harbor ......._..$ 38,500.00 Waukegan .......................... 736,000.00 Highland Park (Cary Ave.) 160,000.00 Place â€". Estimated Cost| Winthrop Harbor ...........$ 38,500.00 | Waukegan ...................... 736,000.00 | Highland Park (Cary Ave.) 160,000.00 | (b) The construction of additional‘ units to the present sewage treatâ€"| ment plants at the following places: Place ‘ Estimated Cost North Chicago ...c.....$ 124,50()‘00} Lake : FOIOBE: â€". w smmminisens 47,500.00 Highwood .............1........... ‘ <93,500,00 Total of all the projects $1,200,000.00 The program has been carefully worked out by your trustees and ap» proved by engineers of national reâ€" pute. ‘The project is right and the project is needed. The cost is very small. 1t is proposed to retire no bonds during the first four years. Then the bonds will be retired proâ€" rata over a period of 16 years.â€" The cost to the taxpayer is very small. To a taxpayer now paying $50.00, the cost will be an additional $0.64 per year approximately for the first four years, and after that, $1.36 for the first year andâ€" reduced each (year thereafter as bonds are retired. Now is an economical time to build while costs are low#and while labor needs an outlet. . It would be poor economy to trifle with the election by not votâ€" ing as the preparation for the same costs money. _ If the election should fail to carry because of the indifferâ€" ence of the voters, it will be the duty of the board and the state departâ€" ments charged with the duty of the purification of the water supplies of the State, to require the presentation of the proposition to the voters again in the near future, all of which costs considerable money. The board has conscientiously prepared â€" this . proâ€" gram, and in pursuance of its duty is very desirous of having the citiâ€" zens grasp the opportunity at this time to clean up our bathing beaches and protect the source of our water supply. % _ Vote "Yes" Will you not look to the health and. cleanliness‘ of your community by voting "Yes" at. this election. After all, the important thing to keep in mind is that we are taking our drinking water from the same place where we are pouring untreated sewage into the lake. This is danâ€" gerous and intolerable. A vcie "Yes" for the bond issue will remedy this condition."
