Thursday, Feb. 26, 1931 Ruth Chatterton in "The Right to Love" A "triple characterization," the first to be portrayed by one player in the history of the screen, is enâ€" acted by Ruth Chatterton in the new Paramount vehicle, "The Right to Love." ; This intriguing drama of romantic sacrifice through three generations, is a dialogue picturization of Susan Glaspell‘s ‘book, "Brook Evans." Miss Chatterton plays the roles of a young girl of 1890, the same charâ€" acter as a mother in 1907, and the part of a modern daughter. ; Many dramatic scenes between the mother and daughter are handled by Miss Chatterton in what she terms her most interesting picture since her advent of the screen two years ago. "The Right to Love" offers Miss Chatterton her third mother role, the other two being "Sarah and Son," and "Madame X." Making Films Today Employs Rigid System "The production of present day audifilms has gone beyond the point where the planning and preparation can be done on ‘the set, while the cameras are shooting," asserts Leo McCaréy, Fox movietone director, whose latest production is "Part Time Wife," featuring Edmund Lowe and Leila Hyams. _ McCarey is a graduate of the pioâ€" neer school of directors, when story, situation and climaxes were often deâ€" cided upon while the picture was beâ€" ing Almed. "It was not uncommon in those days," McCarey declares, "suddenly to change the whole tempo and character of a story, because some new idea came to the director in the course of shooting. They | were often good ideas, too, but it would never do unâ€" der the rigid system we must employ today making talking films." "Part Time Wife" is the screen verâ€" sion of Stewart Edward White‘s short story, "The Shepper Newfounder."
