Lincoln‘s Birthday Program / A special assembly was held last week on Lincoln‘s Birthday and & fitting program was given.. > The boy scouts of troop 33 opened the program by marching to the platform, giving the boy scout oath On Feb,. 11 the scouts gave a proâ€" gram in the Jesse Lowe Smith audâ€" itorium at Elm Place School. The troop formed in line in back of the room and marched with the colors to the platform. Then Mr. Price inâ€" vited all scouts from other tl;ms in the: room to.come on the stage. After repeating the scout oath and law, Julius Laegeler, patrol leader , took charge of the program. He asked .different scouts to explain first aid. Afterwards the audience asked questions concerning the demâ€" onstrations and the seout organizaâ€" tion. § First Basketball Rownd Ends The first round in the grammar school basketball league was just completed last week. The Elm Place heavyweights are tied for first place with St. James. This year the Elm Place School heavyweights look very promising. They have shown good team work under the coaching of Mr. Leech, and perhaps are going to win the championship this year. They must play Lake Forest, St. James and Oak Terrace, in a row, but Eim Place boys will do the best ‘ they This week the Juniors received a letter from Miss Dineen, secreâ€" tary, acknowledging the valentine favors. Three hospitals received the hand work. Doll favors were sent to nurses who are patients at the Hines Hospital. Nut cups were sent to the Cook County Hospital. Also handkerchiefs put in fanâ€"like favors were sent to little children at the Women‘s and Children‘s Hospital. The play was about eurrent events. Every boys was an editor, or eporter for, some speâ€" cial subject. Three of the boys made very fine lady reporters. . Short talks were given telling some of Lincoln‘s characteristics. Ned Garst talked on Lincoln‘s sense of â€"heumor, Louise Lyman on his honesty, Jean Morrissey on his eagâ€" erness for education.
