They were literally built to "specifications‘"‘ furnished by the motorists themselves. . , â€" Two Groups of Cars The Studebakers of 1936 appear in two groups, the Dictator and the President. The President is a de luxe ._automobile, designed, styled and trimmed by Miss Helen Dryden, famous New York artist and decorâ€" ator, and is by far the most beautiâ€" ful and luxurious automobile ever produced by Studebaker. â€" This afternoon, as Henry Ford and Edsel B. Ford, president of the Ford Motor Company looked oh, a black Fordor sedan came down the assembly line. It looked like all othâ€" er cars of its model.‘" But under its hood was engine No. 2,336,770. It was the 1,000,000th Ford unit made in the United States since Jan. 1, this year. It ‘left the line at 2:44 o‘clock and was takegn at once for shipment to tge r;,r'l\pany’s showâ€" rooms in New York. Aceording to the report wired to Chevrolet by the president of the oil company, each of the Chevrolets compléted its 100,000 mile run "without one cent of repairs to any lubticated motor part, without carâ€" bon removal, or a bearing tightened or a piston ring changed." CHEVROLETS SUCCESSFUL IN 100,000 MILE GRIND ‘"‘Two Chevrolet cars used‘ by us as part of a fleet for a protracted road test at Toms River, N.J., have paid honor to your engineering," said W. M. Irish, president of the Atlantic Refining Company, in a telegram to M; E. Coyle, president of Chevrolet Motér Company, at the elose of, a 100,000 mile grind comâ€" pleted in five months. The test ended Oct. 30, at Philaâ€" delphia, where the cars were receivâ€" ed with special ceremonies by officiâ€" als of the Atlantic Refining Comâ€" pany, which conducted the long run to demonstrate the value of its lubâ€" ricating oils. In fact, he did better than that; He built 1,000,000 cars in 10 months. Total production for the full year 1935 will probably run to 1,180,000. "Next year," Ford said, "we‘ll build a million cars." sys _ "Can L print that?" asked the newspaperman, conscious that he had a story of worldâ€"wide interest. ~ "Sure," said Ford. "You may say ‘a million cars or better‘." * One year ago today Ford sat, late in the afternoon, watching the pupils of Greenfield Village. schools taking a dancing lesson in the big ballroom which is a part of the Ford engineering laboratories. A : newspaperman who chanced along asked Mr. Ford about his plans for the coming year. > OVER 1,000,000 FORDS MADE LAST YEAR Henry Ford made good his promâ€" ise of a year ago to build a million Ford cars in 1935.
