It was here that the Ott reunion wsa held (the John J. Rink property). . When he was 24 years of age he moved into Deerfield township and he and ‘his bride lived in the Ott hWKomestead. ‘The Vernon Golf club is now a part of the Ottâ€"Rockenâ€" bach farms. He retired from large scale farming in 1897 when he movâ€" ed into the village of Deerfield purâ€" chasing a sinaller farm in the south western section of the village on which he spent his remaining days. His wife died in 1898. His present home was built in 1907 and his daughter, Miss Viola, has kept house for him since his wife‘s death 39 lyan ago. 4 White bearded, jaunty, erect of carriage, and still able to drive his own automobile, and work his garâ€" den until just a few days before his death, Mr. Rockenback has mainâ€" tained a close interest in all civic affairs. ~His first vote was cast for Abraham Lincoln 72 years ago and he.had remained a staunch Reâ€" publican. _ He has held many public offices. He was a director of the Wilmot school for 15 years, was & member of the first Board of Eduâ€" cation of the Deerfieldâ€"Shields townâ€" ship high school, a road commissionâ€" er for seventeen years, a director of the Deerfield State bank until last year, a director of the Northâ€" field fire insurance company for 34 years, its president for 16 years, a supervisor from 1913 to 1917, & drainage commissioner and held many .other civic positions. H He was of exceptional value 3 the: compiling of the "History of Deerfield," written by Marie Ward Reichelt in 1928. His interest was keen ua Deerfield‘s Centennial cele= bration in 1935 and his daughter, Miss Irene, was at the helm in the Centennial celebration and assisted in writing the pageant. 4 Mr. Rockenbach‘s seven chfldrfi 4 who survive him, are Mrs. Ella Plagge, Viola, Irene, and Samuel of Deerfield, Ormon of Crystal Lake, Almon of Lake Zurich and of Long â€"Beach, Calif.
