Mrs. Carl Bates® The annual meeting and lunchâ€" eon of the Deerfield Woman‘s Club was held last Tuesday in the recreâ€" ation rooms of St, Paul‘s church, with the Evangelical Daughters serving a delicious luncheon, Mrs. Burr Hindahl, the retiring presiâ€" dent, presided. Reports of all comâ€" mittees were encouraging. c The consensus of opinion was that members had particularly enjoyed the book reviews and current events, andâ€" more should be planned for next year. They will approach the village board with â€"a request that that board operate a bus line to Highland Park; that the Journal Place park be kept up; and that some provision be made for a park, such as the Jewett property or the land adjoining the Deerfield Grammar school to the west be putrâ€" chased. Miss Irene Rockenbach wat appointed chairman of a committee to get a suitable historical marker for the graves â€"of John K. Clark (Indian Clark) and his wife, who are buried in the local cemetery. Share Your Lilacs The ninth annual "share your liâ€" lacs" campaign sponsored by the Chicago Plant, Flower and Fruit Guild is about to begin. Lilses will be gathered by the various clubs, steam and electric railroads will proâ€" vide transportation and Chicago Tribune trucks will take them from the terminals to hospitals, settleâ€" ment houses, old people‘s homes, ete., making an attempt to distribâ€" ute to every institution caring for the sick and shutâ€"ins. Mrs. Albert ‘Torbet of Bannockburn is one of the nine division chairmen (Skokie division, North Shore Line), and is also Guild chairman for the Banâ€" nockburn Garden club. Mrs. Carl Frick, chairman of the Garden deâ€" partment of the Deerfield Womâ€" an‘s club, is Guild chairman for Deerfield. The date for collections in Deerfield and Bannockburn will be announced later. Unanswered Call The Deerfield Volunteer Fire Deâ€" .partment was unable to answer a call last Thursday evening when the bouse on the Leach estate at the west end of County Line road burnâ€" ed. The district in which the burnâ€" ing house was located voted against having a fire protection district, and so the ‘department was unable to respond. The Wheeling fire deâ€" -;artment was then called, but the ain part of the house was beyond saving. The small cottage adjoinâ€" ing the big house was cut away and moved by tractor to a safe loâ€" eation. The caretaker on theâ€" propâ€" erty is Carl Hoffmeier, who with his wife occupies the small eottage, which was saved. It is reported that crossed wires caused the fire. Luncheon Party A luncheon card party has been planned for Tuesday, May 1, at 1 o‘clock at the Holy Cross Parish Hall in Deerfield, under the ausâ€" pices of the Altar and Rosary soâ€" ciety. Mrs. Earl Frost, the presâ€" ident, is general chairman; Mrs. ‘Thomas Mooney, refreshments; and Mrs. John J. Welch, ticket sales. Field House Benefit The .annual card party of the Deerfield Woman‘s club will again be held in the lovely Brier Hill Country Club (Briergate). The day selected is Tuesday afternoon, May 25. The money realized from this party will be used to complete the Field~House, the erection of which the Woman‘s Club has fiâ€" nanced. Mrs. Burr Hindahl, the outgoing president, appointed Mrs. Ralph Peterson as chairman of the refreshments committee, and donaâ€" tions of cookies for this benefit party will be appreciated by Mrs. Peterson® and her coâ€"workers. 3. Rummage Sale A rummage sale will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, May .12 and 13, in the store just east of the Deerfield post office under the auspices of the Woman‘s Auxiliary of the Deerfield Presbyterian church. Those wishing to donate to the sale are asked to call Mrs. Anâ€" drew Decker or Mrs. William F. Weir. The wedding of Miss Helen Mau and Mr. William Lorton of Chicago will take place in June.
