DEERFIELD LOCALS THANKSGIVING TEA MOSAIC MURAL Over 80,000 pieces of various colâ€" ored glass were used in the making of a mosaic mural just above the stage in the Deerfield Grammar School gymnasium. The artist, John Steffan, who made this picture, is now doing similar work at the Uniâ€" versity of Illinois. An indented part of the wall, 4% feet by 22% feet, has been used for this surface decoration made by inâ€" laying small bits of colored pieces of glass to depict a forest and a group of reindeer. The selection of go:r was quite appropriate for Deerâ€" 1d. Principal Carl E. Bates states that the artist explained that these mosaics are common in Europe, but few are found in the United States. He also stated that the artist did not like to have the picture termed "mural," but as the dictionary deâ€" scribes a mural as being "on, in, or against a wall," this unusual mosaic is best depicted as a mosaic mural. _‘ FALL FESTIVAL The annual Fall Festival of the Holy Cross church will be hetd on Sunday, November 21, in the parish hall. Turkey sandwiches, pumpkin pie and coffee will be served for the supper by members of the Altar and Rosary society. This turkey festiâ€" val has been an annual event for the past nine years.
