Many Troops Win Awards ‘The North Shore Area Council award known as the President Henry Fowler award has been won by exâ€" actly oneâ€"half of the units of the council, there being 78 troops, ships and packs with 89 qualifying. Popular Merit Badges Scouts in the North Shore Area council in the year ending Dec. 31, 1987, acquired a total of 1790 Merit badges. 89 per cent of these 1790 badges or 1597 were acquired in a list of 35 known as "Most Merit Badges," the other 193 Merit badges covered 49 different subjects, The tional ~and ~avocationtt~Â¥iffect Scouts of this council therefore were interested in and secured advanceâ€" ment in 84 of the 101 subjects. Successful Year With the advent of the New Year scouters in the North Shore Area council are in receipt of exceptionâ€" ally interesting information to the effect that registered cubs, scouts and scouters have ‘been increasing in numbers each successive year for five years. As of Dec. 31, 1937 the present membership is 704 cubs, 2002 scouts, total boy membership 2706. 600 scouters for a total memâ€" bership of boys and men of 3306. CATTON CALL ‘This marvelous growth has been due to the tireless work of the scout leaders to the splendid cooperation of the institutions interested in scouting and to the 13 districts with their community committees. The North Shore area now ranks as one of the outstanding in all of the United States. Highland Park membership a year ago was 114 cubs, 1984 scouts, 63 scouters for a total membership of 871. The year 1937 closed with 120 eubs, 206 scouts, 80 scouters for a total membership of 406. Feeling the thrill of success the leaders are now planning a richer and ‘more intensive program for 1988. Men an boys interested in identifying themselves with this powerful youth organization should get in touch with scouts or scout leaders of their community. Order of the Arrow The Camp M3â€"Kaâ€"Jaâ€"Wan chapâ€" ter of the Order of the Arrow, a national honor camper‘s fraternity of the Boy Scouts of America, met this past week at headquarters of the North Shore Area council. Sixty members were present participating in the election of a new slate of officers for 1938. The new list of officers is as folâ€" vice chief, Bob Earhart of Highland Park, treasurer, John Hale of Wilâ€" mette, secretary and Al Quambusch of Arden Shore as medicine man. ‘The committee was named of arâ€" row members to develop plans to coâ€" operate with the council camp comâ€" mittee to promote camping attendâ€" ance at camp Maâ€"Kaâ€"Jaâ€"Wan in the summer of 1938. This committee is as follows: Warner Turriff of Highâ€" jand Park, chairman, Dey Watts, of Glencoe, Milan Cobble of Highland Park, Dick Johnson of Winnetka and Gar Braun of Waukegan. The committee was also named to make a study of membership and report recommendations for changâ€" ing byâ€"laws in the local chapter‘s constitution.
