THURSDAY, MAY 19, 1988 Ravinia Woman‘s Club Closes Year With Luncheon On May 11, a tasty luncheon served at the very attractive tables set by Miss Virginia Whecler and the members of her House commitâ€" tee was enjoyed by the Ravinia Woman‘s club in the final meeting of the season. While still seated at the luncheon tables the club members heard the annual reports of the officers and committee chairmen. Mrs. John Van Bergen, president, expressed her appreciation of the wonderful work done by her outgoing board, and asked for volunteers for committee work for the coming year. The program for the afternoon was presented by Mrs. Raymond Watts, an informed and charming nature speaker of our own communâ€" ity. Her subject, "The Ravinia Landscape," covered the period beâ€" ginning 30,000 years ago when this region was under water to the presâ€" ent day when our native vegetation is needlessly lost as a result of thoughtless and misinformed propâ€" erty owners. Her subject was more graphically portrayed by her use of chalk and blackboard, but everyone‘s attention was easily held as Mrs. Watts described the dandelion as the Daniel Boone type of plant pioneer or told how the County Line Road cemetery must be preserved as long as the grass grew and the waters flowed.
