Plans Lawn Party, July 6th Presbyterian Church School to Have _ Social in Deerfield Honore Beere Places Third in Amateur Commercial Contest In the novice typewriting division for business colleges, Dorothy Herâ€" rick of Milburn won first place for the event with a speed of seventyâ€" three words per minute. This speed is a composite score of straight typing and letter setâ€"up, the latter including form arrangement and tabulation. Miss Herrick was preâ€" sented with a beautiful trophy for the school and a gold medal for herself. In the 100â€"word rate shorthand, Jeanette Miller of Waukegan, placed second, transcribing her test, which included letters and articles, at the rate of thirtyâ€"eight words a minute. Helen Sengenberger of Waukegan placed third in the 130â€"word rate The program includes several addresses and a number of symposia on educational problems. .Among the prominent educators who will participate in the program are John Fewkes, president of the Chiâ€" eago Teachers‘ union; Malcolm Mcâ€" Lean, director of the General colâ€" lege, University of Minnesota; Harâ€" old Fawcett of the University school, Ohio State university; and William C. Reavis, professor of edâ€" ucation, University of Chicago. . In the amateur typewriting diviâ€" sion, Honore Beere of Highland Park placed third with a speed of seventyâ€"two. Her test was carried along the same lines as previously mentioned. Miss Beere was awarded a bronze medal for her excellent work. Mrs. G. R. Bailey, president of the Parentâ€"Teacher Association of Deerfield Grammar school, anâ€" nounces a Family Lawn Party and Ice Cream Social on the school grounds, on Wednesday evening next, July 6, from 7:30 to 10:00 o‘clock. Members of the P.T.A. will serve ice cream, homeâ€"made cakes and eool drinks at nominal charges, and proceeds from the sales will be used for a Recreation fund. Attend Educational Conference, Evanston The Lake College of Commerce again made an enviable record at the Sixth Annual International Commercial School contest held at the Hotel Sherman in Chicago Tuesâ€" day and Wednesday. A decision was made to enter the contest Monâ€" day evening, and without the inâ€" tensive training that generally acâ€" companies this type of work, four out of five contestants from the colâ€" lege who entered, placed. â€" A program of games, music and fun will be supervised by Mr. Ralph Fox and his staff of workâ€" ers who conduct the Federal Recâ€" reation Project at the Deerfield sehool. A delightful evening is promised, and the entire community is urged to attend. The teachers, officers and pupils of the Presbyterian church school, Deerfield, will sponsor an ice cream social on the church lawn on Satâ€" urday afternoon and evening, July 16. Ice cream, homeâ€"made cakes, homeâ€"made pies and cool drinks will be served and there will be grabâ€"bags for the children. The community is asked to keep the date in mind and plan to attend. R. L. Sandwick, superintendent of the Deerfield Shields Township High school, and E. R. Seese, a member of the Board of Education, are participating in panel discusâ€" sions at the annual Conference for School |Administrators, sponsored by the school of education of Northâ€" western university, which is being held this week, Tuesday to Thursâ€" day. Each year this conference is held during the summer session, to take advantage of the presence of eduâ€" cational leaders who are teaching or studying in Evanston. The theme of the meeting this year will be "Challenging Problems in Eduâ€" cational Administration."
