She has done free lance writing for Child Life (whose February issue will carry one of her plays), Children‘s Actitivies, of which she was poetry editor, Story Parade, and the Chrisâ€" This story, appearing currently through November in the new chilâ€" dren‘s monthly which began publicaâ€" tion 10 months ago and now has a cireulation of 145,000 readers, is in reality a "fairy" story, a form of writing which Mrs. Bennett affirms "is too classic to die out." She calls it an "absurd prejudice" that put tales into discard, and is happy to note that these imaginationâ€"builders are coming back into vogue. _ Doing more and more prose nowâ€" adays, Mrs. Bennett at first "reâ€" belled against it," but now likes it better and better, feeling encouraged to see her "prose coming up," as she puts it. The two sisters will team up this fall in doing Mrs. Bennett‘s next book, which she hints has a good many touches of Highâ€" land Park atmosphere. Three years ago, Mrs. Bennett did publicity work for the National Association of Real Estate Boards; she also has done extensive lecturâ€" ing, before the Chicago Woman‘s club, the University of Indiana, the National College of Education, Lake Forest college, Ferry Hall, and varâ€" ious‘ other organizations throughâ€" ing was so profuse as to result in her use of a pen name, and it is Her first publication was dediâ€" cated to her children. She has alâ€" ways written with them in mind, alâ€" though as they‘ve grown older, her stories don‘t especially apply to them. Therefore, it is characterisâ€" tic that Mrs. Bennett picked "Carol Kensington" as her alias, a choice which reflects her family ties. She manufactured it from the names of her husband and children. Carol is her daughter, 21 years of age; Ken is her husband‘s name and also her son‘s. Ken, Jr., is 12. The "Kenâ€" sington" also calls up the Kensingâ€" ton Gardens of Peter Pan, making allusion to a favorite story of hers. Her mother was Abbie B. Bastin, who taught in Highland Park schools for 30 years; her father a professor.
