ANNOUNCEMENT | A utility cabinet or bed rack, deâ€" signed to hang on the back of a j patient‘s hospital bed, has been the |-.jcr project for the boys in voâ€" eational training this last year. High School Boys Make Contribution to Hospital About two years ago Mrs. Edwin P. Keim, local chairman of the Junior Red Cross, asked Mr. Walâ€" ter K. Durbahn, director of vocaâ€" tional training at the high school, if his classes would like to make some of the articles needed for Red Cross work. Mr. Durbahn seâ€" lected a bed rack designed and deâ€" veloped by Col. Perkins and Gen. Carroll as the project for our school. This work came as a special opportunity because mateâ€" rials were scarce for other projâ€" jects and the Red Cross would furnish all materials for this work. The school promised to make 500 cabinets, made 360, and will complete their selfâ€"imposed assignâ€" ment later in the year, "The bed racks, placed at the head of the bed, provide such an orderly arrangement for the paâ€" tient‘s books, radio, comfort items, cigarettes, playing cards, stationâ€" ery, etc., that he soon learns to reach back and find the article for which he has need with a minimum of effort. 6 "The installation of a bed rack eliminates the need for bedside taâ€" bles, .permitting more freedom for the ‘corpsmen and nurses to make the bed and care for the paâ€" tient‘s physical needs." § Remarks Aletta E. Horn, acting field director of the Red Cross at Vaughan General hospital: *R The two representatives _ from each class accompanying the first shipment to the hospital were reâ€" ceived with cordiality, shown the entire hospital and reported with real enthusiasm the worth of their work and the pleasure they gave to patient and attendant alike. The impetus of actual accomâ€" plishment, rather _ than _ "made work," makes the program of this department an important factor in the real growth of its students. Lake Co. Tuberculosis Assn Starts Campaign The 1946 Christmas seal sale, the fundâ€"raising ‘umplitn of the Lake County Tuberculosis associaâ€" tion, was formally launched in the.county on Nov. 25, when 36,â€" 728 letters containing bonds and seals were received by residents in this area. * The 1946 tuberculosis Christâ€" mas seal brings the greetings of the Lake Co. Tuberculosis associaâ€" tion, and a reminder that the conâ€" tinued fight against the disease in this community, likewise, depends upon the genem't‘y of its resiâ€" dents. Lighting his lamp against a starry blue sky, the lamplighter appeals to theâ€"citizens of Lake county ‘to continue to light the way for those who are valiantly batâ€" tling tuberculosis. n Current services are being renâ€" dered by the mobile xâ€"ray unit now stationed at Libertyville, â€" All facâ€" tory employees, public schools and parochial school pupils and teachâ€" ers are being given an opportunity for chest xâ€"rays. This is just one of the communities on the itinerâ€" ary of the mobile unit, and the unit itself is only one of the many services provided through Christ: mas seal sale funds. With the opening of the seal sale here, 2,900 associations, from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico and from the Atlantic to the Pacific, began the 40th anâ€" nual drive. Proceeds of the sale Il;m!h'lol.flpportolmlmci- & R The goal of the association this year has been set at $40,000, apâ€" proximately 85 per cent being reâ€" tiainod by the ;‘ke eounty associaâ€" tion.
