Wednesday, February 11â€" Says Many "Miracles" Are "Divinely Natural" On Sunday afternoon, February 1, Cecil F. Deng:,flC.S.. of New York City, a membe the Board of Lecâ€" tureship of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass., delivered a lecture on Christian Science entitled "Christian Science: The Availablility of Divine Law". Speaking in the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Highland Park, he said in part: 2 [‘ mn" ..d.y;' 1st â€" Lenten Vesper; 8 p.m. ‘Thursday, February 12â€" _ ‘The Redeemer Guild of Rodeen-‘ er Evangelical Lutheran Church, 587 West Central Avenue, holds a special meeting on Thursday, Febâ€" ruary 12th, at 2 p.m. in the Church Hall. This Lincoln‘s Birthdayâ€" Guest ‘Getâ€"together‘ will feature a program planned by the memberâ€" ship for their guests. Each member is asked to invite and accompany her guest to the meeting. In charge of fellowship part of the program are Mrs. Harold Holt and Mrs. Marcus Hagen. "During â€" Paul‘s first missionary journey into Asia Minor, as recorded in the fourteenth chapter of the book of Acts, he encountered a "certain man atâ€" Lystra, impotent in his feet, being | & . cripple . fromy his mother‘s womb, who never had walked." Paul evidently discerned the man‘s recepâ€" tivity to the Christ, Truth, and thereâ€" upon healed him of his infirmity. This immediate restoration to normalcy so astounded the people of Lycaonia that ‘they cried out that the gods had come down to them in tire likeness of men. They .then proceeded to name Paul and his fellow apostle, Barnabas, after their Greek gods, Mercurius and Jupiâ€" ter, and to bring oxen and garlands unto them to make: sacrifice. The "Times without number mankind has witnessed proofs that there is indeed no other God "that can deliver after this sort." Elijah and Elisha and other prophets knew the power of God; and the master Physician, Christ Jesus, and his disciples were so conâ€" scious of God‘s everâ€"presence that mighty acts were an everyday occurâ€" rence. These exhibitions of God‘s power were demonstrated for nearly three hundred years following Jesus‘ ‘mm when the church lost sight of its healing mission until it was revealed to this age through Christian Science. This religion is Christian beâ€" cause figl based on the life and teachâ€" ing rist Jesus, and it is Science because it is a systematic and demonâ€" strable understanding of divine law. ‘This religion declares with Daniel: "I thought it good to shew ‘the. signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me. How great are his wonders! His kingdom is an everâ€" lasting kingdom, and His dominion is from generation to generation" (Dan. 4 2, 3). Â¥. w their Greek gods, Mercurius and Jupiâ€" ter, and to bring oxen and garlands unto them to make: sacrifice. The apostles, however, rejected their idolatrous worship, declaring, "We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should, turn from these vantities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth,â€"and the sea, and all things that are therein" (Acts 14:15). "As one of the definitions of the word "miracle" Webster‘s dictionary quotes from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy,. as follows: "Thit which is divinely natural, but must be learned humanly; a phenomenon of Science" WELCOME TO CHURCH (p. 591). From beginning ‘to end the Scriptures are, full of, accounts of wonderful events coming to pass which by their very nature set aside soâ€"called material law and revealed the law of God with whom all: things are possible. _ p0 ST. During this period he directed In its last analysis, these parkâ€" ing meters installed in Highland Park, or any community with simâ€" conditions, is simply a revenue producing measure inflicted upon the already overtazed and overâ€" burdened motorist. In fact, Mr. Cole‘s statement that these meters Congregition Israel every Friday .u.ct:np-.‘l\-?o-.lth located at Lincoln and Vernon Avenues and visitors are always cordially welcome. _ (Continued from page 1) cauke the practice to be discontinâ€" will produce an income of $4.08 to $6.66 per meter permonth conâ€" firms that view. C 203 meters at $4.08 per month produces $828.24, and for a year, $9.938.88 ; while at the higher rate suggested of $6.66 per meter per month the income would be $1,â€" 351.98, or for a year, $16,223.76. Who pays these sums* The citiâ€" zens of Highland Park. And who gets these sums? The city of Highâ€" land Park. What do they do with it? That question has not beenâ€" asked or answered, but it is conceivable it would go into the corporate fund, to be used for any purpose whatâ€" soever that the city council might decide on and not exclusively for the repair and maintenance of the streets and highways. The citizens owning automobiles are already subject to many taxes and penalties imposed upon them because of their ownership and use of an automobile. There is a fedâ€" eral tax on the purchase price; thore is a state tax or license, for soâ€"called registration plates; the icity of Highland Park taxes for what is called vehicle: license. ‘ There is a personal"property tax; \ there is a federal tax of 1%c a | gallon on gasoline and oil, and a \ state tax of 3¢ a gallon and there | are taxes on tires and tubes and ‘accessories, all of which, when | added up, comes to a considerable | sum. Now it is suggested. having paid all thes> fees, including the Highâ€" land Park vehicle taxâ€"which realâ€" ly ought to give the citizen the right to use the streetsâ€"that they be charged an additional $9,000 or $16,000 a year for the use of the streets for legitimate purposes to enable them to buy their supâ€" plies and the merchants to sell them and keep in busines©gaus ing. in addition, inconvenience, deâ€" lays and other harrassments. It ‘is not suggested that the Northwestern _ Railway â€" or the North Shore Electric be inflicted: with parking meters when they, stop their trains; nor are taxicabs/ er motor buses; nor is it suggested that taxicabs or motor buses; be also subjected to parking meters, nor should they be. I The installation of these â€"meters should be resisted by all the citiâ€" zens of Highland Park, and particâ€" ularly by the storekeepers. No benefit can come from their instalâ€" lation, and the additional cost to the motorist is indicated above. Write to your countilmen today and urge the repeal of the ordiâ€" nance.
