In the event that a wacancy exists in either the offices of Police Sergeant or Police Patrolman, however, that in order to prevent the stoppage of public business or to meet extraordinary exigencies, the City Counâ€" cll may, with the approval of the Civil appointment to any of the offices aforeâ€" said to remain in force not exceeding sixty days as provided by statute. Such temporary appointees so appointed to fill the duties of any of the offices supervision and direction of his superâ€" discontinuance of the office, suspenâ€" such office shall be abated during such period of absence. SECTION VIII. The office of Proâ€" visional Police Patrolman and the office of Private Policeman heretofore existâ€" with all laws and rules in force relatâ€" which they have been certifled in acâ€" cordance . with senfority to fill such vacancy.
