Page: I talked with one of Highland Park's most important leader's this week. He is charged with the protection of you, your child- ren, your property. . . Now anyone can see Highland Park is growing. Look around. Note all the new homes and apartments. As a city grows, more protection is needed. Yet next month, on June 15th, two able policemen will be dismissed and one police car put in storage. ' Why? To save money. And why again? Because Highland Park hasn't enough money to pay for adequate police and fire protection; street mainten- ance; and lots of other services vital to a growing town. Experts report it'll be a year before there'll be an- other vote on taxes. During these next 365 days, Highland Park will march to the rear, leaving its citizens and their property unsafe and, at times, completely un-protected. .Sad commentary? Yes. l What's to be done? " . It's up to us. . . all of us. Must Have More Funds . . . Our city must have more funds. T And we'll keep right on bringing this subject up until something is done about it. When only 30 percent of the voters vote, and the majority of those vote against a measure to make High- land Park safe, I think it's tragic. i I don't like to see Highland Park deteriorate. I don't like to see Highland Park's children unsafe and without protection. I don't like to think about my home burning down because we haven't enough money to support out hard- working fire department. . Highland Park must have more funds. NOW! ' Are you willing to help?
