Walters was unanii, imously elected chairman for the eni! suing year. % The result of the election being announced Mr. Walters approached the \ chairman's desk and briefly thanked the members for the high honor conferred * upon him, stated that he would use '• every effort at his' comrrinnd to make the year's work a credit to the county; that economy was the watchword which v, at this time should be adopted by all 1 public bodies: urged every member to be diligent in this regard and stated * that if his administration of the office could be as successful as that of his ^ predecessor that he should feel satisfied. Supervisor ' Friend arose and stated f that he desired at this time to thank >' his colleagues for the loyal support I they had given Mm during the past year. Si,:- Representatives of, the McHenry z4-- county Home Improvement association expressed a desire for an audience with the Board and were invited to state their request Mrs Echternach made a pleasing talk in which she spoke of the * high ideals to be worked out through this association, and gave a financial statement covering the past year, she I hen Introduced Mrs. Sill i man of Seneca township who clearly and forcibly outlined the objects, aims and hopes of the association. T. H. Murray, club leader for McHenry county, also made a complete report of the Boys* and Girls' Club wortc •for the past year. On motion all of said reports were ordered placed on file. A considerable number of citizens of the county appeared before the board in the Interest of better roads, the board was addressed op this subject by P. J. Donovan, T>. T. Smilev. V. S. Lumley. Chas T. Allen and W. H. Wilbur, the prevailing opinion was that good roads were desired by all of the people, the only question being to determine the best method of getting them, the speakers named heretofore. outlined various methods for raising funds for this purpose. stated that same could be done by issuing bonds, or if preferred the question could be put up to an election in the form of levying a direct tax for that purpose. Upon motion the chair appointed a committee of five consisting of Supervisors S. II. Freund, IS. C. Hughes. John Conley. F. B. McConnell and A. EL Hale qs a snecial committee to investigate the matter. A special committee consisting of Supervisors Ackman, Barber and Kuecker were appointed to represent McHenry County In the matter of & County Line bridge near the County lines of Mc- H«nry and Boone in the Township of Marengo. The Highwav Commissioner of the Town of Hartland presented a petition asking that the County psar the necessary costs of the construction of a new bridge at the site known as the Whan bridge over a branch ef the Kishwaukee River on the line between Sections 29 aad 30 in said Township. On motion the chair appointed a specommitte of three consisting of isors Durkee.
