And also a petition was presented by nearly two hundred of # f ifei ctttsens of McHenry, also against the location of the proposed septic . tank inside the corporation of McHenry with the discharge from the 14^ »*id proposed septic tank direct into |he river. Their contention being that frox river, already badly polluted ^vould be many times worse by the lof Ration of the proposed tank on the 'jtanks of the river. There was also a teport handed to the improvement |>oard signed by Peter S. Lynch, "Chas. M. And that the k location of such a tank on the banks ' of tho Pto* river, after a few months, jjb^. Many other questions were dis- ' cussed without practical results, rii V* 0ne Statement by the president of the tV meeting, Mr. Stoffel, and which has • been going around the village, to the Pt ; effect that the state of Illinois would compel the authorities of McHenry to tqj'~ install the sewer system before very long, proved to be either a grevious £*V'" ' mistake or a wanton falsehood. In- I t, asmuch as the attorney for the objectors, Mr. Arthur Bulkley, informed those present that the state could not force any improvement upon any municipality. Mr. Bulkley has had twelve years experience as city attorney of Waukegan and he is a reliable author ity on the subject. When it was learned that the state could not and would not force the corporation of McHenry to install sewer system, many of our people felt much relieved and now have a different version of the matter. After much arguing and debating the meeting was adjourned and the public hearing was a thing ijf the past. No action was taken by the so-called "improvement board" at this meeting, the president, Mr. Stoffel, refusing to sign anything, at this meeting It appears, however, that a meeting was called later on Friday evening, which was a special or regular meeting of the village council. Mr. Stoffel, it appears was at his home and had retired for the evening when called upon by two members of the board to came to the board meeting on sewer question, at which meeting nation plat of part of S. % Of ifec- H tf.
