V" ':.'~ - > Look Into the Future ONCE fri the lifetime of every individual--and once in the history of every community, there comes a time when if we but catch when it presents i \ struck for things may be accomplished vision and grasp the opportunity In our opinion that hour has . _y- Stop for a Moment and Consider These Significant Facts:-- McHenry thrives largely because of her natural beauties and her geographical position, chief among these resources being the Fox River, as beautiful a stream as flows through any part of the middle west. Not being an industrial city, we must depend largely upon the money that is Bpent in our community each year by the people who come here for recreation and rest. Without that money our prosperity would; dwindle very materially. Therefore it behooves us to m$ke our city and adjacent territory as attractive as possible for these vactionists. The*state of Illinois is at the present time spending nearly a .quarter of a million dollars in the construction of the last stretch of Route 20, including three bridges, the largest of which spans the Fox, a structure that would be a credit to any city in the United States. Next, this very day a public hearing is being held on the selection of a route for a new ribbon of concrete, which will connect with Route 19 on the south and Wisconsin Route 12 on the north. Thus our transportation problem is being solved for ua. The recently created Fox River Federation is getting organized and in a few months will start the cleaning of the Fox from its source to the mouth at Otjtawa, thus giving us one of the purest streams in the Country. From recent developments it seems certain that we will soon have a factory in McHenry that will add hundreds to our population--not cheaply paid labor but skilled mechanics who are prosperous. With the proper sort of inducements in the way of living conditions there is if* reason why other such establishments should not locate here.; * * Now, it is proposed to organize a park district that will provide access to the river for those who are not so fortunate as to own property fronting the stream. McHenry is the only town of any consequence along the entire length of the Fox River that has made no provision whatsoever to preserve at least a small portion of this God created valley for future generations. This valley has been handed down from - Our fathers. Will we be faithful to that heritage and hand it on--or shall we, for the sake of a few dollars, allow it to pass into private ownership and forever deny the population of this territory the right to epjoy themselves'on the banks and .the surface of their own stream!
