Well, follow up the pres ent custom, hang a few poor drunken, Ignorant cusses, who have no friends and only courage when drunk, to kill one man, but If they have the "clear grit" to shoot deiwn men like wild bea&tfi of the desert, Imprisonment for life, with almost certainty of pardon ere many years. Is all a Jury will find against him. The old fable of the wolf and tlio shepherd has Its moral ROW as well as In olden times, via: o:ie person may kill an old theep with im punity, but If another kill the smallest lamb of the flock, he finds no mercy. ^"The mud is fast disappearing. Marty fields of early sown wheat begin to show green. Some farmers are sowing oats, corn ground Is being extensively prepared, the pastures are putting ujforth verdure, fruit buds are crowding IllfiHBlSnind vegetation is at least one month ahead of average time, and still we are not happy. We are obliged to admit that the present March is without Its equal for spring like ap pearance within the memory of man; lit other words that the oldest Inhabi tant never experienced such another March, and yet all, or nearly all foretell Its opposite extreme between this and ordinary planting tifne. The English man said of the Yankee that he could not enjoy a pleasant day, as he Invaria bly would call it a "dawifted weathaue bweeedaw," and Johnny Bull was more than half right.
