The Ducks are mom plenty than ever known before the first day of their flyinjr. The bridge is lined night and morning with hunters, and the banging of guns can be heard both up and down the river. It looks as though Duck, hunt Ing had commenced in earnest. Jos. WIEDEMANN, had the misfortune to be thrown from his buggy on Thurs day night last, breaking his shoulder, and injuring him quite severely. The particulars are these. Aaron Hoffman, who resides near Spring Grove, came In on the evening train on Thursday, and engaged Wiedemann to take him home. He drove to Hoffman's and started back home, but as he had never been that road before he missed his« way. and get on the wrong road. In turning around. IK the Chicago Tribune of the 5th last we find in the graduating exer cises of the Chicago Medical College, among the many names of the gradu ates, the iiAme of Charles Hubert Fe- gers, brother of Rev. Father Fegers, of Johnsbu'gh, who graduated with high honors in a class of thirty-four, carry ing off the first prize for the best theses. Dr. Fegem hu many warm frieKds iu McHenry County who will rejoice at the honor bestowed upon him, and his success iu his chosen call ing. He is possessed of marked abi.i- ty, and we predict will make his mark in the profession. Dr. Fegers is now stopping with Rev. Father Fegers. of Johnsburgh, and wiUfu A few days make a * visit to lili «p irent*, after which he Will open an office in Johns- burgl^and also an office for consulta tion in this village, the location of which due notice will be given In these columns. <" *' The Lecture by O. W. Batley. at the Universallst church, on Wednesday and Thursday evenings last, on the sub ject of China and 'the Chinese, drew out full houses, and was listened to with the greatest interest by all. In sfiort we believe one and all prononnced them by far the most Interesting and instructive Lectures of the course. Mr. Bailey, from his long residence iu ChMta, is enabled to minuteLy describe the manners and customs of that g^eat Nation to perfection, and he does it in a manner that carries his aurlience with him, and makes them almost think tliSy can see the things as de scribed by him." His description <o»f their Schools was highly Interesting, as well as was that of the Armf. He N a pleasant speaker, and interspei'ses his Lecture with frequent hits aud droll sayings that never fail to bring down 'the house, Taken all In all his two Lectures were a grand success, and wore so well received that the Lecture Association engaged him to deliver four more sometime during the month of May, of which due notice will be given. No one should fail to hear him ou that occasion. Ojf Moudav we. took a hasty look through the Warehouse and manufac turing institution of O. Bi«hop, aud we were much astouished at the amount of busluess being done there. He keeps five men almost, constantly at work be sides himself, manufacturing Drags and Cultivators, aud has uow one hundred of the former under process of mai>u- focture and fast approaching comple tion. This work is ail done in the upper story of his building' aud the machinery used therefor is run by steam pdwer, furnished by an Eight Horse power engine wlileh stands in the rear room of his warehouse, which is under the supervision and care of Theodore Smith, as engineer. And right here let us say that thls is one of the finest little engines to be found in the county, running with as little noise as a sewing machine, yet with suffici ent power to run his planer, saws, Ac., up stairs, and set his entire machinery on the lower floor going at the same time. He also has a large stock of Farm Machinery of all kinds. Pumps, Buggies aud Wagons, Ac., Ac., and is pushing business it a lively manner. He has al*d bought the right of the United States to manufacture for one year Francisco's Patent Pumpkin Seed Drapper. and will immediately com mence their manufacture on an exten sive scale, and will have any number of them ready for the Spring trade. Taken all in all in and arround his es tablishment Is about the liveliest place to be found in this section. Farmers when in towu should not fail to call and see hisKtoek of machfner.t. And If Fred Mptrens infMigtifafes anenterprise which tneceesfully nocrues to the financial benefit of the "German Sabbath School" we see no] physical, moral, or religious objection to the receiving thereof by the "German Sabbath School" and prudently expen ding the sapie for suitable books fOr the members thereof to read. A testa ment purchased with such funds la no less a Testament, the Lortfis prayer. Christ's sermon, on the mount, the story of his^agony in "the gardeufof Oethsemane. his crucifixion upon the cross^and his returection are no lees sacred history. All Churches give Con certs, Tableaux and| other 'theatrical performances, for the>enefit.|of Sab bath Schools and churches', which are generously patronized bysFred Marcus and hosts of* others outside of the pales yf the ckuich, and we never knew She instance of any chiilN^i refusing to take the admission fee fwhethor from "Jew or Gentile," "asking no question# for conscious sake." We see no differ- enca between a Concert audjTableauxt In Statue quo aui^a Concert and Tab- laux keeping graceful time to music, hence discern no plausible excuse for the crlticisriw^whlch the Woodstock correspondent tp the Richmond Qatelte choses to write in regard to the *'Concert,'and*Dance,#Feb.|20th, far the benefit of the "German Sabbath School." The funeral of Hud San ford wis largely attended and by all classes, thus proving the general esteem for deceased, as well as universal sympathy for bereaved friends. The families are few in this or any other community where thererexiste a stronger family attachment than has always been a marked feature of happiness in that bereaved household aud h*nce "this second time that a loved and cherished son and brother has been taken from thei%weighs them down with grief. But dear friends while it is true, too true, that Georgie and Hud have been taken from you, you still have the living with you to care and be cared for, and when it shall happen that you each in your turn shall be summoned to cross the "Iiiver" and they shall stand upon the other shore to greet andwelcomeyou.it will surprise and pain you that ton did grieve at their translation from this world of sorrow to yonder world of blissful peace. If there Is much news It has failed to reach our knowledge box. Our Canning and Pickling compaay held Its annual meeting oh Saturday, but we have not learned the results. Of course everybody joyfully greets returning Spring, full ot bird music and sunshine.
