All the old settlers are Acquainted with the Methods' of Judge Wilson, who lias served two or three term* in this circuit, and many good lawyers say he !s the itblost jurist we ever have had; while all who have attended court during the Inst ten years have Seen Murphy, and can be but pleaded with his gentlemanly bearing, and the records show that a greate? per cent., of his tleci&lona stand the test of the higher oourtft than those of any other judge in lh« State." UQ-We clip tlie following eltraet from an editorial under the head of ^Circuit JndgeshJp" which appeared tu the Waukegan Gazette. The five tuon whose names are to be considered are all lawyers of long prac tice and marked ability and rank high in their profession. It is no detraction to the others, however, to say that among them all our own fellow towns, man, the Hon. C. W, Upton. shines con spicuously* as a jurist. A man of the keenest intellect, brilliant in the forunt or on the bench, of quick perceptions and tenacious memory, he has during his two years sinc» his first election, gone to the front rank and achieved a reputation of which any man may well be proud. Unless we are misled the sentiment of each of the seven counties comprising the District is unmistakea- bly in fovor of his re-election. ̂ ^ m ' COUNTY CON VK NT ION. Inst. • VTm are well aware that Ibis Is a busy time of year for the farming communi ty. but we trust uo Bepublican voter in the town of McHenry will fail to see the importance of his attending the Caucus which is to meet on Thursday next for the purpose ot sending dele gates to Woodstock. We believe we dp not exaggeratewhen we say that If the voice of the people of this county could be obtained they would stand ten to one in favor of the nomination and election of Hon. T. D. Murphy as one of the Judge? of the Circuit Court In this District, but stiouid the people stay at hone the f*rimaries would be run by the wire- polling politician, whose only aim is to tnake capital for themselves At some future time, without any regard as to whether the people are benefitted thereby or not. But if the Primaries are run In the interest of the people and by the people, we have no fear of tfape result. Hon Theodore 1). Murphy, who has served them so ably and well for the past twenty-one years, will be their almost unanimous choice. No business of any kind should be allowed to interfere, as no election .tu* be held this year is of more impor- *atace to the people, nor in which they ought to take a deeper interest. The enemv are earnestly but secretly at wtttrk* and hope to catch yon napping, therefore we say come out to the Caucus and see that your neighbor «J©«i likewig^. Winnebago, Boone McHenry,1 jtanfe Kendall, Ogle and Bock Islands ^Phe present incumbent is Judge Jfenjamin R. Sheldon, of Rockford, /rhore has been no discussion of this subject in the district, and we Jcnow of no nsovement to bring forward candi dates. It is probable Judare Sheldon ^ Will be endorsed by moptof the Repub lican conventions of the several liounttef, and re-ele^fed, perhaps with out opposition. He Is regarded with general f.ivor by attorneys, and they b<»«f judjje of his capabilities for flit* ltd fl^upies^- Elgin Ad- 0^On tlie first page of thtt fffl?pef can be found the Speech in full of Hon. John C. Sherwin, ot this District, de-* livered in the House of Representatives April 25th, the subject under discussion being the Southern Election Frauds,-- As his maiden Speech in Congress It is one Mat he may well feel proud of and his constituents can congratulate themselves that the old Fourth Dis trict is again represented in our National Legislature, He charged the ball-dozers with attempting to de» stroy popular government by fraud, having failed tb do it by the sword And throughout his entire remarks hit straight from the shoulder, ftpeaking so plaiu that uone could fail to under stand bis meauing. The speech throughout is argumentative and has a true, manly ring. It will pay a careful perusal, i tier of^: v««i !«< o^upanta to rnionieter an|d hot weather, ,, ' Hotel, Frank Styles Proprletor„Ss also astir with Im prove- ments, Ffank Hnboiit to erect an ad dition. giving his house a total of six- teeu bedrooms. The neatness and good cheer of this establishment is now quite proverbial with our Lake visitors and promises to continue un- <ler the preitent management. Frank always smiles on his customers, his lady tickles their stomachs with deli cious dinners, whereas Mr*. Snyder lulls them in dessert dreams with the sooth ing strains of a Oablnet Organ. Dys peptics must be in pretty bad shape, If they can't escape the nightmare un der all these balmy influences. Harry Duntiell, the veteran sports man, is rather seriously laid up with sickness. He Is, however, rapidly Im proving and little aa the ducks miss him, he has other friends enough who will rejoice to tee him whoulder the sun again. Another casualty to be mentioned, is in the pe rson of one our farmers, Felix O'Boyle, who got kicked two days ago by a colt. The animal plant- ted his two bind hoofs In the face and shoulder of the unfortunate man breaking the Collar bone and literally tearing the cheeks and nose from his face. The poor victim lives and that is all that tfin be said at present. His family have the sympathy of the whole, community, by whom Mr, O'Boyle is much esteemed as a peaceable man and a good neighbor. Though his wounds are seiious there are hopes of his re covery. LONG B#4#CH, . V DISSOLUTION, ::"'XV The firm of Bucklin 4b Stevens is tills day dissolved by mutual consent. * GEO. A. BUCK LIN. C. The houses on the lake, however, have been turned inside out, the carpets beaten for uo fault of their own/ the walls whitewashed and the bugs generally looked after, blew their fiat souls; in fact everything made comfortable for geutiemen with loose change, and the little fishes sigh lug for Chicago com pany. " . Mir; McCarty is peacefully encaged planting onions, Mr. Milleit Is grab bing, ArinaK Woodward, fiiq,, laying out his island in village lots, and the farmers running a corner on grass. -- The lakes are remarkably low so that to say nothing of steamboats, the ducks are having a hard time of it to swim around the Nippersink Point, so that it will not be amiss for the new boat to provide for these emergencies by having a reservoir for hydrogen gas in order to inflate Itself in shallow places. Fishing reported good aud our fisher men shipping to market. By the way, some foolish persons have been passing a law at Springfield to prevent the sptaring of fish during the spawning season, as if the night jacks were supposed to understand the meaning of laws. Like enough sofue night jacker will waylay that legisla tive member and spear him after dark. At all events he had better keep ofi Fox and Plstaqua Lakes, as there are inure jacks than statutes behind every rice thicket at night time. It is said tlie Small residence is to be further ornamented with a playing fountain In front of the mansion, the supply being procured from the ad joining hill by tne$us of a windmill.-- Tiiis, in addition to the ever growing attractions of this sylvan retfeat, will make it exceptionably inviting. The neighboring Club iloupe looks sick and appears to have just thawed out.-- There is some vitality left however in the bufiet and kitchcn stove, both of which are iu a good state of preserva tion and free from weeds.
