THE Old Settlers of McHenry and Lake counties contemplate holding a Picnic af Fox Lake some time the latter part of August. An ea-lier*day WRS talked of, but after consultation it was thought advisable to put it off un til after harvest. Due notice of the time will be given, a programme will be arranged and Speakers eugaged, so that all tnay look forward to oue of tbe most enjoyable times of the season. A gentleman who has for some years been watching Mr. Vennor and the weather together, prophesies that a season of unparalleled heat is close up on 11s. There will be a slight break in the spell at first, but August and September will be prolific of sun strokes, and be remarkable months both as regards excessive heat and electrial displays, Let everybody take a note of this prophecy. ^ THE dancing public should not forget the Party at the Riverside House, in this village, on Friday evening, July 4th. The Hall is the largest Hud finest in the State, rfnd Wightman will spare no pains to accommodate all who come in the best of manner. No matter where you celebrate do not fail to get around to the Riverside in the evening Good music, a good supper, and every* thing that can tend to make you com fortable will be provided. It does not make you es cape the evil, it makes yOn unfit to cope with it when it comes. It does not bless to-morrow, and it robs to day. For every day has its own bnr- den. Sufficient for each day is the evil which properly belongs to it. I>o not add to-morrow's to to-day's. Do not drag the future into the present. The present has enough to do with Its own proper concerns. We have always strength to bear evil when it comes.-- We have not strength to bear the fore boding of It FROM Wauconda we learn that the preparations for their Celebration is progressing favorably, and thoso who attend can rest assured of a real old fashioned time. They have secured some of the best speakers to be found in the country, and the committee will leave nothing undone to earry out their programme to the letter. Their new Steam Barge is completed, which will make hourly trips around their beau tiful little Lake with a Band on board, which will furnish music for such as may wish to "trip the light fantastic" while sailing over the water. this they advertise a match game of Base Ball, a Walking Match, and other sports, and a dance in the Hall day and evening. The Pratt House will furnish ample accommodations for man and beast. At a meeting of the Barge Club, called to decide the location of a pier and dock, Messrs. C. Coggin, R. Harri son, Dr, Wells, J. Bangs, and F. B. Har rison were chosen A committee to de cide the question. They decided unan imously to have it built at the foot of the only public driveway to the lake. While the decision has been ratified by more than nine-tenths of the people of Wauconda and vlsinity, still there are a few who are not satisfied and seem to be unable to quietly acquiesce in the wish of a large majority. This is deeply regretted by the friends of the enterprise, who are anxious for harmony and good feeling, but who itill wish the majority to rule.
