In the Toulon, 111., Herald, of June 27th, we find the following account of a remarkable Surgical operation, per formed by Dt. A^g^Baldwin, brother of Prof. S. D, Baldwin, of this village: . "Frank Powell, a voung toan 18 years ot age, lives with Mr. Jacob Wilson of West Jersey. From early childhood he has suffered, more or less, with some internal disease that heretofore has baffled all medical skill. During the past two or three years his suffering was greatly intensified, an# various physicians consulted, among the num-t ber the distinguished Prof. Davis of the Chicago medical college, all with out affording any permanent. relief.-- The 14th Inst., he called on Dr. • A. B. Baldwin of this city, for medical treat* ment. The Doctor Jmade a careful ex amination of the case, and at once promptly Informed his patient that he was atfli ited with what is commonly known as "stone in the bladder,* that itB removal was imperatively necessary or it would prove fatal in a few months at farthest. Powell consented, aud af ter proper arrangements June 24--last Tuesday--was fixed as the day for the operation. Drs. Boardman, of Elmira, Alvis. of Kewanee, Todd and jugals of Galva, ,were invited to assist and wit ness tlie operation. J>rs. Phillips of Lafayette, and Hall of Toulon, were also present. It too;}t place* at the Toulon House, where the patieht is now lying. We cannot give the opera tion in detail, but it was one of the most skillful on record, and reflects high credit upon Dr. Baldwin wllo planned aud executed the operation.--- It was very successful, with little loss of blood, not more than two to four ounces. From the time the ether was given until the operation was comple ted, one hour and tea iniuuies were consumed. The operation consumed about 50 mirfutes, a longer time than i# usualt as the stone was one of the very largest hard ones ever removed. I t is a phosphatie stone, weighs nearly three ounces, and is about the size of a hon'E egg. It -can be seen at Dr Baldwin's office. Drs, Todd, Alvis and Ingals, all complimented t)r, Baldwin very highly upon his signal success in the operation. The patient is doing splendidly, and (here Is no\$r a strong probability of his recovery in the course of a few weeks. ITe is being cared for by Mr. Elias Ly,on,#tiOm Dr. Baldwin compliments as a n$£t ex cellent nurse for the sick foom. * If young Powell recovers, and there are cjood grounds for encouragement, it (kill be a strong testimonial to Dr. BaldwStelS: skill as a feurgeou " , , Th«i^ny firlends of Dr, Baldwitiin Mellenry county congratulate him on his sncti^s iia this J^ioft difficult opera t i o n . . j . • < £ Medical KeUl» Dntni. ,,, , ' no medical kettle dmima to ait! in*prociaiiuing tlte virtues of Kid' iify-Wort.
