Sept. 25th, and re sulting In the organization of an as sociation to be known as the "Richmond Murk*t Fair." The project Is uot the Impulse of a moment, but has been dis cussed for some months among farmers and business men, aud starts out with plenty of Influence and capital to back it. Such fairs have been permanent In stitutions In the old countries time out of mind, almost. They furnish a. m«*ans ol exhibiting Anything a man has to sell and to brlug the buyer and seller together, ilie weekly fairs of thli kind lu most of the town of England makes it quite unnecessary for the spec ulator to scour the country after str>cL and produce, as lie does here--the fair is the place where the buying a:ul selling are done. There is no good reason why tlie- same convenient methods couid not be adopted here, and while the Richmond enterprise at the present time contemplates only au an nual fair, w* may confidently expect that tiuie and success may lead the management to hold several. In a year --as many as the mutual interests of all the people might demand. The association is uot a close corpor ation for money trakiug purposes, by any means, but it is open to the world and anybody may take advantage of its benefits free of charge. The people of Richmond and vicinity have put their hands in Mirir pockets aud given between one and two hundred dollars clean money to bnild sheds, yards, etc., and ftit the grounds in order for the purpcscs contemplated. The more one thinks the afialr over, the more It seems possible to make tt a good thing. It must soon pass from the realm of experiment and become a public necessity. Most farmers have surplus stock to Bell, some one kind and some another. A ha* more pigi for breeding purposes than he wants to keep and wants to add to his stock of sheep. B has sheep to sell aud wants to buy pigs. The fair brings A and B together; each is a cus tomer for th* other, and each gets the stock lid wants by fcijpple barter of buying and selling lor cash. Il is believed and expected that the. horse department of the fair will grow to .be an important, au* and attract buyers from the cities for city use, aud speculators who ship for profit to the West or East; and to those so inclined, golden opportunities.will be found for boss trade s.n . • Tito fair will bring together the manufacturer and (he farmer for their mutual Interest. It will lie .Just the place to exhibit and sell the thousand and one maclilues, vehicles, implements and devices which are now indispensi- ble to the modem farmer. Competition will make lower prices to the farmer, while the manufacturer gets even by his increased »nl«*s. Tho*e who have blooded stock for sale or exchange will bring it to tlie fair. Horses, cattle, swine, sheep, poul try, all will have a place, and it will pay to bring them for exhibition to oue's neighbors And to strangers as an advertisement for future sales. Everybody Is Invited to attend and Itelp make the fair a success. If you have no more than one animal for sale or show, bring it; it will count one toward tlie aggregate success. We hope the press of the Couaty will give u$ a lift by noticing our initiatory eflort aud keep the date thereof before their leaders: Wcduestlay, October wtiCiss^ 'YV^L^ ^in-- I." .,[|r J Cloak?, Doloian'ti an«l tJlltera for Ladles aud Miasrs.at' INsrry Owen's-.
