That of Virginia Is instructed to vote , «• a unit, aud it is understood to be for Arthur. That of Ohio is divided be tween Jehn Sherman and Blaine, That §1 Connecticut is for General Joseph R. Tlie story as told by Michael Mc« guire. one of the jurors whose verdict of manslaughter against Berner pre cipitated the Cincinnati riot is not at all impiobable. There has been noth ing in tlie records of the administra tion of justice in that city for a long time, which can be cited te challenge the probability «F McGuit^'s story of the "deliberations'" of the Berner jnry. Hi) says that between the ballots games of cards were played for money, and intimates that those wlie won were not afterward as strenuous for Berner's conviction. ^.After retiring to the jury room, the foreman, A. F. SIIPW, sug gested that they take a ballot at once, and urged him (McGuire) to rote "not guilty." Shaw and one other juror wrote the ballots nhd handed one te him. It read "not guilty." lie threw it into the hat and then took it out and voted for murder in the first degree. The foreman, after one of the ballots, announced that it was unanimous for manslaughter. MvGuire declared that epuhl not be possible, for lie had voted for murder in the first degree, and he thought Juror Merrill had voted for murder in the second degree. McGuire smysShaw was a good talker and finally influenced Merrill to vote manslaughter. At the last lie (McGuife) was forced to also vote for manslaughter. As soon as this vote was taken tliey were rushed to the court room and the verdict read. He thought of making an explanation to the judge,*, but was lief erred from doing so by Shaw, who told hi in the judge wanted them to give a verdict of inan?laugli'ter. and was pleased with it. I'liis story McGuire is said to have re peated he I ore the grand jnry'with fuller and more damaging details. As there was nothing in the previous course of "justice*' in that city to render such proceedings impiobable, so there was netliing in what followed which was not a legitimate outcome of such a travesty on jury deliberations. If the Beincr jury had been composed of men of intelligence, men of character, there would have been no such secrets of the jury tooin to disclose ; t iier#wonld havfc been no riot, no occasion for careless shooting by militia and no'death* of innocent people. But Jn poll- tics it Is eminently trtie that nothing succeed* like success, and it la argued that while a bare majority of two means nothing In itself in the House, tho moral effect of this vote en the tariff will be considerable. If Mr. Randal) had wen the fight by even a small margin, lie would have showed hi* power so plainly a9 to leave no doubt of his leadership. That he failed, although by a very little, it Is believed by some will hurt his pre*. tige. The first fruits of the vote\to take up the Morrison tariff bill appear-^ ed in the shape of a list of ninety-two members who have notified Chairman Cox that thev wish to deliver speechs on the subject. This will open the* flood gates from the Capitol to the Government printing efHce, and the employes of the latter establishment will enjoy a prosperous spring. Th® Congressional Record will swell 'out of all projKirtiou, and tons of talk will be printed mid dumped on tho country at large. Then, after ,ill the bill may possibly be amputated at the neck by the passage of a motion to .strike out the enacting clause ; or be adopted ln a more or less altered shape and then hung up to die of neglect in the Senate. The proprietor of this celebrated medi* cine justly olaims for it a superiority oyer all remedies ever offered to the public for the SAFE, CERTAIN, SPEEDY and FE&- JCANEJJT cure of Ague and Fever, or Chills and Fever, whether of short or long stand* ing. He refer3 to the entire Western and Southern country to bear him testimony to the truth of the assertion that in no case whatever will it fail to cure if the direc tions are strictly followed and carried ont. In a great many cases a single dose has been sufficient for a cure, and whole fami lies have been cured by a single bottle, with a perfect restoration of the general health. It is, however, prudent, and in every ease more certain to cure, if its use is continued in smaller doees for a week or two after the disease has been checked, more especially in dimcult and long-standing cases. Usu ally this medicine will not require any aid to keep the bowels in good order. Should the patient, however, require a cathartio medicine, after having taken three or four dose3 of the Tonic, a single dose of BULL'S VEGETABLE FAMILY PILLS will be suf ficient.
