Caull Opera the Opera House will be marked by tl vival ol Von Suppe's charming and ular opera comique, "Bellman." cast given to* this production of Opera will be an extremely strong including'as it does all the principals the McCaull Company. The music "Bellman" is exceedingly dainty, %nd contains many charming melodies. The scenes of the opera are laid in Sweden, and the time is that of the last century. Carl Bellman is a poet who is in high favor with the King of Sweden, and is affianced to his majesty's favorite. To secure his influence in political affairs, he is made the object of intrigue by the leaders of two rival political organiza tions who are known as "Hats" and "Capsi" Bellman leads those conspira tors a merry dance, and the representa tive of each political party is in turn made to believe that he has been success ful at the expense of the other. These complications assume most amusing phases, and leads to many humorous situations. Savoring as it does so strongly of politics, the plot of the opera cannot failjto be unusually interesting to American audiences. A most charming love story runs through the opera which appeals strongly to the lovers of senti ment. Many of the situations in "Bell man are exceedingly amusing, not the least of which are the adventures of the two Semitic dealers in gunpowder, who present most delightful bits of character ization. The dance of the polar bear and the Laplander is one of the most amus ing things in "Bellman," and is also one of the most daring and original features introduced into contemporaneous opera comique. DeWolf Hopper, as the herring merchant, is enveloped in an atmosphere of humor. The cast, which is a most notable one, will include Marion ManOla, DeWolf Hopper, Mathilde Cottrelly, Eugene Oudin, Annie Myers, Jefferson de Angelis, Josephine Knapp, Carrie Burton •has. W. Dungan, Herbert Cripps, Ed mund Stanley, Lindsay Morrison, Her bert Charter and Louise Edgar. • NEW YEAR'S PARTY.
