The Price of Health. *The price of health in a malarious district is just 25 cents, the cost of a box of Dr. King's New Life Pills," writes Ella Slayton, of Noland, Ark. New Life Pills cleanse atad gently impart new life and vigor to the system. 25c. Satisfaction guaranteed at N. H. Pet- esch's, Frank Masqnelet'a, McHenrv G. W. Besley's, West McHenry. Th^-cheese factory of Doran St Ok In this village was opened for business on Monday last. Emmett Riley has been engaged to run it <- Geo. Colby had an addition to his family one day last week of a nine- pound girl. Mother and child are do ing well and the father is happy, F. B. Ellsworth, who for the past few years has been on the old Mead farm, has moved into this village and now occupies the building lately fitted up by G. T. Howe. O. C. Colby has moved his family to Nunda. the larger part of his business being at that place- His hardware store in this village is still running, being in charge of Frank McOmber. The steamboat Mary Griswold is now making daily trips to and from the lakes, carrying freight, passengers, etc. The Lotus will commence running as soon as the travel fairly sets in. Dock hunting is reported good. That new soda fountain at Besley's, which we spoke of a few weeks ago, has arrived and is indeed a beauty. As soon as the weather will warrant it, it will be put in running order, when our citizens will have a chance toquaff from this icy fountain. Notwithstanding the bad roads, the attendance at Riverside hall on Thnrs* day and Friday evenings of last week, to witness the drama of the "Hidden Hand" by the McHenry Dramatic club, was good, and all were highly pleased with the play. The members of the club all sustained their parts in an ex ceptionable manner and proved what we have always said, that as amateurs they have no superiors. We learn that a company has been formed in this village, who will imme diately commence preparations for starting a brick yard on the premises of F. A. Hebard, where it is said they have discovered the finest clay for that purpose to be found in the Northwest. A good brick yard cannot fail of being a paying institution here, and judging from the men who have the matter in hand we are assured the matter will be pushed. We learn that some boys, who are large enough to know better, while hunting around McCollum's lake, amused themselves by shooting at short range into board fences on the farm of Mr. Colby, splitting and breaking the boards, spoiling them oompletely. The parties are known and all that is now asked is that they replace the boards with new ones at once, and save them selves trouble. This malicious- kind of action has been borne long enough by Mr. Colby and he now proposes, to ap ply the remedy, "A word to the wise" etc. F. G. Mayes and his son-in-law, E. 8. Bartlett, have purchased of D. S. Smith the corner lot east of the Baptist church and will immediately commence the erection thereoq^ of Ja store 90x40 and two stories hi£h, which they will occu py themselves, putting in, in connec tion ifcth Mayes' tailoring establish ment, a stock of groceries and general merchandise. This is one of the pleas- antest business locations in town and the erection of this store will be a good improvement to our village. Mr. Bart lett, who has been in Iowa for the past few years, is well and favorably known in this section, having formerly resided here, and we predict that the new firm of Mayes & Bartlett will do a lucrative business. "Orchestra" and "Neise." In Shakespeare's time no musical dictionary could have distinguished between "orchestra" and "band," for the simple reason that neither word Was then English in a musical sense. "Orchestra" did not arrive before the eighteenth century and even "band' not until the latter half of the seven teenth, when Charles II. had a "band of violins," in imitation probably of Louis XIV.'s "bande." The old Eng lish word for a band of music was "noise." "See if thou canst llnd out Sneak's noise. Mistress Tearsheet would fain hear some music," says oue drawer to the other at the Boar's Head tavern. And just so Ben Jonson has "a noise of fiddlers" and "a noise of trumpets." The old word Is wanted for many a gathering of musicians out side this writer's flat.--Londdn Chron icle. lany To be able to have the things we want, that Is riches, but to be able to do without, that is power--MacdonaId The 8train of Society. There should be an eight hour day for "fashionable" women. We cannot talk scandal continuously for twelve, as we do now. Pitcher Pulse will managS the Wan- kegan team the coming season. Belvidere has already organised a strong team for the coining season. Elgin will have a good semi-profes sional team in the field again this sea son. Nothing doing in the baseball world in McHenry thus far. Who is going to start something T Pitcher Teddy Opfergelt of Wood stock will pitch for the Kenosha, Wis., team the coiuing season. We are informed that the Johnsbnrgh Grays want to rent the McHenry base ball park the coming season, in case that McHenry has no team. We understand that Scully, who last year filled the secoml base position on the McHenry team, will be given a try- out with the South Chicagos this spring. Richmond, Dundee, Genoa Junction, Hebron, Crystal .Lake, Round Lake, Johnsbnrgh, Woodstock, Harvard and Long Lake will have teams in the field the coming summer. Manager Weber of last year's McHen ry Bines has already received many ap plications for dates, but thus far has not signified bis intentions of managing the team this year. The baseball fans of McHenry were glad to hear that John Kling has again signed ^ith Chicago for the 1907 season. Johnny is conceded to be the best back- stop in the business today. ^ Cared Hemorrhages of the Lane*. "Several years since my lungs were so badly affected that I had many hemor rhages, " writes A. M. Ake, of Wood, Ind. "I took treatment with several physicians without any benefit I then started to take Foley's Honey and Tar and my lungs are now sound as a bullet. I recommend it in advanced stages of lung trouble." Foley's Honey and Tar stops the cough and heals the lungs, and prevents serious results from a cold. Refuse substitutes. G. W. Besley. McHenry county may well be proud of him. He is a son of the late E. E. and Mrs. Naomi Thom as of Woodstock and a nephew of Mrs. H. M. McOmber and Mrs, E. M. Owen of this village. In Memory of Rev. Father O'Neil. [Who died at McHenry, 111., April 10,1900.] The active brain, the busy hand, The throbbing heart is still; The voice is hushed that was so sweet To soothe the sad and ill. The eves that beamed on ua so oft With tenderness or mirth, Hav*» !o»i their liKbt and uid farewell-- A long farewell to earth. The ears that were wont to listen To our every care and pain Are deaf to all our troubles now, And hearken not again. The feet that hastened to our call, Tho long and drear the way, To bring relief from sin and griel, Are resting now for aye. At noontime or at midnight, At morn or evening grey, He came to us whene'er we called, Yes, came without delay. But he has obeyed a higher call, He has vanished from our sight. His toll is o'er, bis work is done. And rest corner with the night. And could we but reward him For his labors here, we own We would seat him high in heaven, Clo^e beside the Father's throne. **» Chamberlain's Cough Remedy Aide Ma tu re.
