It is generally understood by the reading pnblic that the poetoffice de partment at Washington made a rtil ing a year ago that the management of newspapers nrnet keep their lists col lected well np to date, otherwise, in order to nse the United Statee mails, most place a one cent^stamp on every paper sent ont in arrears beyond the stated limit. It is not onr desire to cut any Plaindealer reader off the list, bnt it will not prove profitable or possible for ns to pat a one cent stamp on papers past dne. If yon are in arrears yon can readily see oar dilemma. ^ A Along this iine the Mt. Carroll Mir ror publishes the following: H. A. Strc-liin, the poetoffice depart ment's special agent, is headed toward Mt. Carroll. He was in Clinton Mon day, where be called on the newspaper boys, examined the subscription books, and those who were amiss in obeying the law were told in plain terms what the penalty wonld be if they did not get busy and oomply with the require ments, which are that subscriptions mast be paid to a certain date. Mr. Strohm is expected here at any time. When hedoee come, there will be no way of evading the law, which we con fess, has been done op to the present Httit). The law requires that weekly sub scriptions cannot be more than one year in arrears and daily subscriptions more than six months in arrears. Otherwise the papers cannot be sent thru the mails unless the publisher puts a stamp on each paper sent. This, of course, the publisher could not afford to do. We again ask that our subscribers be prompt in meeting the requirement. At best only a short time can elapse before The Plaindealer will have to sub mit without complaint to the demands of Uncle Sam. To stop any subsciip- tions wonld not be to onr liking, bat it will have to be done in all cases in which the subscription is not paid in accordance with the above stipnlations. An Enlightenment. Notwithstanding the fact that thf present owner and publisher of The Plaindealer has been the sole owner and publisher of said paper for over three years and is and has been responsible for everything said (unless otherwise signed) within its columns, there are still few of onr readers who labor under the impression that the employes of said paper are the responsible ones. To make things as clear as possible to snch narrow minded individuals we again repeat that it is the undersigned who owns and controls said paper and com plaints against said paper should be made to him personally and not to the help. There are a few brainless fools in this world who like to make a big disturbance in a crowd, but to faoe the real mnsic themselves itf%hore than their nerves can stand for. Again we say, if for any reason one has a coipplaint to make, make it to Yours truly, F. G. SCHREINER. ANNOUNCEMENT. The'Seheca township convention is to be held with the Diggins Sunday school next Sunday afternoon, April 24. The temperance superintendent for the county would be very much obliged to the secretaries of the various schools if they wonld send him their names and addresses, as he has communications and temperance literature that he would like to send from time to time. The Dorr township convention was a quite representative gathering and, con sidering the unpleasant weather, was very well attended. It was demonstrat ed at this meeting that the pastors of Dorr township are alive to the needs and value of the Sunday school. It is now only one month until the World's convention, and Mr. Standish is very anxious to report ten registered organized adnlt classes, at least, from this, county. He is making progress, but the time is growing short. The in terest in the reports from this great organized work that'will come back to the classes who are a part of it will be an impetus which will effect your whole school. i At thv Dorr ttDTyssiiip ct>B*Tosth?i! Inst Sunday it was voted to assess the schools of the township two cents per capita of enrollment for the expenses of our dele gates to the World's Sunday School con vention. It was voted to undertake to complete the collection of this amount by May 1, and also to recommend this method to other townships. All contri butions for this purpose should be for warded to Wm. F. Rice, county presi dent, McHenry, who will spnd receipt for same. ! \ One Conductor Who Was Caved.
