Father Barth of Sierra Madre, lifomia, one time pastor of St. itary's church, arrived in McHenry ^Friday evening. For several days he Mingled with his old flock and was g5ad to shake the hands of the people of McHenry. Many parishioners went t© church Sunday to get a glimpse of Father Barth, who had the late ser vices and occupied the pulpit. Al- tho not quite as robust, our distin- • i- guishedvisitor has remarkably im proved in health. His voice is clear tod his words Were ringing full of eh- couragament. The healthful climate of Sierra Madre has done much to improve the health of Father Barth Hsring the last nine years and his out look for many more birthdays in the sunny clime of the golden state is certainly bright. Monday our Rev. visitor and the local clergy dined with TQhr. Fegers. Tuesday evening they Were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Stenger. After shaking hands with a large crowd who gathered at the station to see him off, Father Barth left Wednesday morning for Chicago on his way home near Los Angeles. Minus painting and heating and plumbing and a few smaller jobs for which figures are not all in as yet, the building contract has been whit tled down to $1792. Many changes were made by the committee, espe cially in the roof, brick work and in terior, which made it possible to re duce the original figures something like $1315.00. The committee feels very much re lieved to have reached these results after many long, earnest meetings and Contractor Rauen has been or dered to proceed as fast as he can. Vern Brott, wife and his mother, Mrs. Maria Brott, of Woodstock were calling oh friends here Sunday after noon. Archie Wallis, wife and three chil dren were Sunday afternoon eallers at the home of the former's father, Ed. "Wallis. Relatives, here have received word that Mark Hutson is home from the hospital and is doing $ne. His mother is also improving. Ed. Wallis had the misfortune to have his large barn on the home farm burned to the ground with all his hay, straw and oats. No machinery exr cept a threshing machine, milking en^ gine and a small engine to pump wa ter. A team had just -been fed in the basement. It was led out and all harness taken out. The origin'of the fire is unknown. Mr, Wallis was in the basement cleaning when he smelled smoke. His youngest son, Ed die, fourteen years of age, had just been in the upper part of the barn for oats, but saw no fire. Some think perhaps a match had been dropped some time and the boy stepped on it as he went down with the oats. The fire started in the drive way and ran both ways in the hay and straw. There were fourteen hundred bushels of oats in the bin in the upper part Barley and rye were in bins in the hog house. By the efforts of neighbors a Bmall barn for young stock was saved. This is the third barn on this farm Wallis has had bum in the past years, besides his house and hog house. f' sspSfif Him is one of the mottos of this garage that we follow mo& closely.
