When school ended for the summer, they gathered at my house and decided to make skirts. All of them were fourteen years old or ugder. At their first meeting day, scarcely a child even knew how to handle a needle, and today, like the colors of the rainbow, twelve little skirts, seamed, banded, placketed, and hemmed lay in a row-- finished! There was nearly as much ripping as there was sewing, but' everyone took the bad with the good.
