Christmas is a glorioas season, hut the trail is. rough until old Santa has finally completed his work and headed for home. It's a good thing that the Christmas spirit catches up with people, though. Don't we try to out-do the other fellow all year, then get our greatest joy in doing for the other fellow when the true spirit of Christmas hits asf Anyhow, we've decided thai those Chicago merchants will haTt to •truggle along without OUT business this year. We'll shop at home. . "Blondie" and "Topsy," those dream girls behind the Mugg's-Druga eounter, laid the law down to us this week. After handing us a couple of good stogies in the past eouple of weeks and not getting any publicity, the girls say we have to buy our smokes from now on. We'd take it up with their bops, but understand he spends moat ot bis time in Lake County. Last seen, he was stalled near Vele. Let's net forget the big V. F. Well, you are going to have a lot of fun-and entertainment at this carnival. The eommittee ii* fid of idee* • U.' Fred Ferwerda is in town and has been seen conferring with "Mose". They are trying to gather the fragments and rebuild the OOP. - A fellow never knows what he may \ n»n into in a new neighborhood. For instance, Thanksgiving noon we walked out our back door carrying a roaster full of food. Out rushes Herman Kruestzer on his backporch and yelled to ask the time. Caught us off grard, too. We had one heck of a tiate tqrp# to g«ta look at our watch. Did he laugh! CO-OPS HIT TH1 HOOP FOE OVEBTIMI VICTORY IN OPENER The McHenry Co-ops basketball team got off on the right foot last Sunday night before a sizeable crowd of enthusiastic rooters. It was a good Libertyville team that fell before the Co-op strength in a three minute overtime. At the end of regular time the score stood 52-52. Final score: 61 to 54. ^Although the local team has had Httle practice," the general team play and shooting was far better than expected at this early part of the season. McHenry took off to an early lead that dwindled to four points at half time. The visitors came back in the second half with plenty of pep, Anally managing to go into a tie in -the closing seconds. We'll skip individual heroics since the team as a unit must be given credit for a good game. The Co-ops are putting a good, big team on the floor and have demonstrated that they are ready to give the fans a lot of good basketball thin J* Jacket* W. Killer C. Neins O. The home boys went into a £1-20 lead at half time as Willard Mc- Culla dropped in 4 of his 7 baskets during the second quarter. At the end of three quarters, Mc Henry led SI to 20. Delavan then pulled into a 7-point lead before the Warriors could bounce back into a tie. But', bounce back they did!-- And it was a wild crowd that saw Willard McCulla and Paul Freund sink free throws at tense moments to bring about the 41-41 tie at the end of regulation time. Hurte, Dvlavan's refl-headcd ace, sank the winning shot in the overtime. _ -- McHBmtY ftSORSATIOlT -- Oonant-- C. ThorseH, 5»; V. Seiabtldt, 214- 497. Early Birds-- L. Miller, 171-428; "B.
