' A great humanitarian, a skilled organizer and a tireless, faithful church worker is retiring from the Illinois state directorship of the Christian Rural Overseas Prografn in the person of Mrs. Herbert Crowe of Peoria^ it has been announced by Albert W. Farmer, national CROP field director. Mrs. Crowe has headed the Illinois CROP organization since the inception of the program in 1947 and was, during that time, responsible for the collection of 505 railway freight carloads of foodstuff which ^were contributed by Illinois farmers for the feeding of hungry people abroad. "This great record of sharing was in part at least due to the .inspirational guidance which Mrs. Crowe gave the program", stated Albert W. Farmer in commenting oh her resignation from the program. Mrs. Crowe has been active in chureli organizations and welfare work for many year*. "I will not be less interested in overseas relief", Mrs. Crowe confided in resigning from the directorship, "but I will be able to devote more of my time to several humanitarian projects of "which CROP is one."
