First it was the Warriors credit - ; » who poured it on as they mounted a 12 point lead on Grayslake. However, Gray slake made a fine comeback to take the lead from the Warriors. Then in the final Johnsburg sent a big delegation to the Forester tournament last Sunday and also sent some basketball players that will look good on our high school teams in a couple of years. Tournament notes are in a separate colUmp this week with the schedule for next Sunday. Tommy Sutton says that Fanny Freund is gunning for us. Nqw, what did we do? Everyone was hitting and gave the Impression that this would be a runaway. Bobby Walters was the sparkplug in the attack as he hit 9. Tom Huemann added 5, Ron Ford and 8tan Aim 4 each and John Lawrence 2. Most of theee points came as a result of the fastbreak. which was working better then than it had *11 season long. As the opening quarter drew to a close the Warriors had built up a 24-16 lead Qrayslake Comes Back |a, the second quarter it was Grayslake's turn as they came back and shattered all previous impressions which w£ might have had. Pech, their tall center led their surge as he counted 8. John Lawrence amassed 5 to lead the Warrior output As the half ended the Warriors held a slim 36- 35 lead. The Warriors, after falling behind in the opening minutes of the third quarter, put on a real show and took the lead once more and never let go of it again. Again it was the dazzling play of Bobby Walters that paved the way to success. Bobby counted 9 more to lead our 17 point rally. John Lawrence was second to Bobby with 4. Again the fastbreak became the source of our output The Warriors had a 63*51 lead as the final quarter began. Control Finish After safely securing themselves in the lead the Warriors stalled out the remaining time in the final period. We were playing a different type of game now; it was no longer score, score, score but just , a question of holding* on to the ball andi not losing our heads. The strategy payed off because Grayslake showed no great desire to take the ball away until the last seconds, then it was too late. The bjuzzer ended a successful home season for the Warriors, who lost only one horn game. Bobby Walters and John Lawrence, two seniors playing their last home game showed the way as they led the attack with 21 and 13 points respectively. Three men, Aim, ford and HUemann were next in line with 8. Johnson hit 2 and Baldwin and Bolger had 1 each. Pech led the Qrayslake offense as he counted 18. Next in line was Hook with 17. The Warriors will meet the high scoring Crystal Lake Tigers in the regional tourney at Elgin Wednesday night. Crystal -Lal£, as you no doubt know, conquered Woodstock 116-46. The Warriors, however are bending over to no one and will be in there fighting all the way. LITTLE WARRIORS WIN XGAIN; BEAT GRAYSLAKE 27-25 Last Friday one conference champ met another as Grayslake invaded McHenry. The Little Warriors had won the SWANI crown and Grayslake had won the North Suburban crown, being undefeated in conference play. Our Little Warriors, however, after a slow start soon showed their superiority. After taking a, slim 5-4 lead in the first quarter the J. V.'s dropped behind 14-9 at halftime. In the third quarter, sparked by Lyle Davidson's fine game at the post, reassumed the lead and never again lost it It was a fine example of team work that our J. V.'s displayed and they worked hard for the victory. Lyl* Davidson, junior 6-3% center showed the way as he scored 16 of their 27 points. The rest Of the scoring was well divided. Also by winning, the J. V.'s showed that they were capable of beating the befit that the North Suburban had to offer. Next year they will play in that conference. Our J. V.'s have been playing fine ball this season and deserve every bit of merit that they have won. LINEIP8: --PALACE-- (m 9 O'clock-- Freund, 1879 -- Steffan, 1863, G. Freund, 232-602.
