It wasn't so much what those Cub fans said, but the smirk on their faces was killing. •• • • -- - When Paul Karls comes in with the morning mail all smiles, we know the Sox won a ball game. When they lose, Paul is in a hurry. George Larkin took Jim Powers #1 to see the Cubs recently. Jim (a Sox fan from way back) put the whammy on the Cubs and they lost. He probably: won't be invited again. The Merchant-Woodstock game turned out to be the game of the Week in the county league. Behind some great pitching by -Bid Doyle, the Merchants were a pepped up outfit. The home boys lost, but with the narrowest margin of any game played that day. Manager Butler realizes that he has a big- job ahead in building a team, but has the right temperament to work with the young players. Dick Smith Is back on the sports page and covered the Shamrock game at Richmond last Sunday. He didn't find much to cheer about in that game, but has high hopes of the home team coming through next Sunday against Spring Grove. -- - Starting June 3 and continuing every Thursday throughout the season, there will be Ladies Day at McHenry Country Club. The girls will tee off at 9 A.M. and shoot for low score in handicap golf. You are asked to turn in five score cards before June 3.
