Areggar, who had waited five years for a vacation, took a wonderful trip two wee&s ago, long to be relhenibered by bo^ They traveled thp&ugh Iovra and Nebraska, taking in many of the beautiful sights in these States, and then reaching their d e s t i n a t i o n , ' C o l o r a d o . W h i l e there, they were very happy to frisit with their son, Walter, who was stationed at Lowery Field. In Colorado, they toured through many of the beautiful sights, such as Mt. of the Holy Cross, Cave of the Winds, Rocky Mt. National Park, Central City, Garden of the Gods, Denver Mt. Parks, Lookout Mountain, and last tout not least, the thrilling experience of going up Pike's (d^eak. As Mr. and Mrs. Aregger ' say, it's hard to describe the beauty of these wonderful sights, you really have to see them yourself to appreciate these wonders, and how true that is!! Back home now, they will have many an enjoyable evenipg reminiscing over the many pictures they took, and memories of this wonderful vacation. Their son, Walter, is now »nfpying a two-week furlough with them, after which time he will go to officers' training school] in Houston, Texas. While Walter is home now, his brother Al, Jr., took his vacation to be with him, which was very nice. Beatty, who was formerly a resident here at McCullom Lake, and who many of you knew, is recovering very nicely from a serious operation he underwent Sfcveral weeks ago. Mr. Beatty is still confined to the hospital, and we're sure he would certainly appreciate his friends sending him a card or note of cheer to brighten these long days! So how about it, folks? They're thankful for their good insulation, or it nvight have resulted in' their beautiful home burning down! Last Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Kate Lennert and Mrs.. Gertrude Makofske surprised Mrs. Reiter at her home on her seventy-third birthday. They were joined later by Mrs. Bushfeld, and together enjoyed* a lovely afternoon, chatting and having a good timeH May we wish many more birthdays to such a sweet and grand lady! Last week, Helen Harth had a frightening experience she won't forget fbr qUite a while. Her son, Carl, who is just 4 years old, swallowed a large piece by round candy, usually called a jawbreaker, which lodged down in his throat. After frantically trying to shake him up and down to dislodge it, and not succeeding, she rushed him to the doctor. When they arrived at the doctor's Carl jerked himself around and dislodged the candy himself, after which all breathed a sigh of relief and a silent prayer of thanks! Carl says he wants no part Of any kind of candy any more. Can't say we blame him after going through that experience!! A warm welcome to new iMghbors. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Carbonaro, who just recently bought the Mrs. Elisabeth Rudin residence and will move in Aug. 24. . ; birthday to Hbward Mortimer, who was 9 years old Sunday, Aug. 10. Happy birthday to Bonnie Burg, who was 3 years old Sunday, Aug., 10. Helping her celebrate were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Burg, her brother, Gregory, Mr. and Mrs. J. Owen of Chicago and their children, Jimmy, Jackie and Joyce, Mr. and Mrs. A. Burg, Sr., Mrs. Evelyn Burg, and her two children, Diane and Jimmy. A lovely birthday was enjoyed by all! During the last storm, Mr. and Mrs. P. Mufeynskl discovered slight damage when ligMning Struck the wiring in their attic. Priends and neighbors in this community Were saddened to hear of the passing away of Joe Frisa on Friday, while he was confined in Hines hospital. Services were held Tuesday in St. Mathias church at 10 a.m. High Mass was offered by the Pinochle club, of which Mrs. Frisa is a member. Many beautiful floral pieces were sent from the various friends and neighbois of the Frisas. Mr. Frisa had b^en a real estate dealer for thirty years before retiring to his home in Germantown last year. In this community, he had always been active, serving as road commissioner and numerous other activities. May we extend our deepest sympathy to you at this time. Barrett the Distinguished Service Citation, an annual award giveh to '.he citizen or veteran who has "lone most to aid the veterans or who has been outstanding in the immunity, state or nation. Barrett will be presented with the award on Thursday, Aug. 14, Governor s Day, at the State Fair by Robert Myler. Department Commandant of the Marine Corps League. Secretary _ Barrett was given the award for his aid and assistance to marines and other veterans and especially in giving work to disabled veterans. Barrett, who was a marine sergeant in World War II and fought in the South Pacific is a member of Chicago Detachment Number One Marine 'T'orps League. They visited the Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming and also they took time to visit a cousin, Glenn Hardy, of Deadwood, S. Dak. Mr. and Mrs. Ben DeCicco, Jr., are anxiously awaiting the arrival of company from Staten Island, New York. Frank and Mary Kennedy and their daughters. Patrica and Joyce, are motoring down for a few weeks' vacation.
