It's an old play with the Tigers, but a good one.. On a pitchout, Katz moved in as if to field a bunt. Howie Freund cut over from second to cover first and put George Jackson's perfect throw on Davis. It's a precision play. An experienced left hander Kasmor was on the hill for Elgin, but as is a way with southpaws his control was off in the first inning. Charlie Hiller walked. So did Howie Katz. George Jackson was thrown but by the shortstop and both runners moved up. Howie Freund flied to right and Hiller scooted home with the first run of the game. Art Jackson walked and Bob Tipps was hit by a pitched ball.. Dick Hiller went down swinging for the third out. A moment's hesitancy on handling Derico's grounder to the right of the pitcher's mound was enough to put him on first base to start the second inning. Altenberg's hit bounced away from Art Jackson in center and the game was tied. Trouble brewed for Johnsburg in the fourth when it appeared that the strain of two games in two days might be too much for Joe Jackson. However, Charlie Hiller took Altenberg's grounder and fired to the plate to keep Meyer from scoring. George Jackson out--raced him back to third for the tag.. The winning run was put over, in the fifth when George Jackson lined a double to right center. George went to third on a wild pitch and scored when Art Jackson's hopper got away from Elgin's sec^hd baseman. The ninth inning was a tense one. Elgin got a runner, Meyer, as far as second representing the tying run. Bob Tipps, who raced over the left field turf in great style all night, hauled in a- hard drive by Danielson. Howie Freund then came up with Altenberg's hard bouncer to end the game. -- SEMI-FINAL -- Not forgotten, but perhaps overshadowed by the championcheck which went to the winners. Joe Jackson received a Lord Elgin watch, donated by the Elgin National Watch Company, as the most valuable player award. McGraw Electric donate^ a toastmaster and that went to Joe as the best pitcher in the tournament. George Jackson, the standout catcher, \vas presented with the sportsmanship award, a trophy donated by the tHgin Jaycees. Larry Kurka, RCA second baseman, batted .470 in the meet, including two doubles and triple, gaining- for him the honor as best hitter. It wis this same Dooley who bashed against the center field fence in the sixth inning and reached high to rob Art Jackson of a potential home run. With Joe Jackson pitching masterful ball and the defense playing flawlessly, hopes of victory grew dimmer as the .game moved along. Then came the seventh and the boys hit the jackpot.
