NEWS Judi Roesch Doris Fuhler Band And Orchestra The thirty members who went to the clinic in Chicago last week came back' with heads full Qf learning. They had a lot of fun while they were learning. The entire group worked very hard for the • county festival, <3 which waa held at Woodstock, Dec. 16. The orchestra is also working on contest music. We are hoping to have some groups from M.C.H.S. represent us at the state contest again this year. Chorus , „ > The chorus recital held Sun- Ay, Dec.' 14, turned out to be a great success. Thire was a full ^house and everyone there enjoyed it very much. John Bolger, on behalf of the chorus, presented Miss Froehlicji with a gift and a lovely orchid. One of the high spots 6f the evening was the girls' ensembles singing "Sleigh Ride," also, the Weber twins, Jean and Joan, did some lovely piano and organ duets. | G.A.A. This week will mark the close of the volleyball season. The tournament is a close one, with the. sophomores and juniors in a duel for first place. If the sophomores take all four games from the juniors, they will also take first place from them. Class standings on Monday, Dec. 15, were seniors 10 wins, 18 losses; juniors, 24 wins, 4 losses; \ sophomores 21, wins, 7 losses; and last but not least, freshmen, 3 wins, 25 losses. The all-star teams have been picked. Freshmen play against sophomores «nd juniors against seniors. On the twenty-second, the playoffs will b° held to determine first and second places, with the winners playing winners and losers playing losers of the Wednesday games. The allstar teams are: Seniors, Karen Engdahl. Linn MCCurdy, Carol Olsen, Kate Freund, Mary Nve. Doris Bauer, Cindy Frett, Pat, Goranson, Arnie Thiele, and Pat Owen; juniors, Donna Dowe, Adele Schmitt, Dorothy Hiller, June Kurbyun; sophomores, Virginia Audino, Shirley Berthoux, Barbara Gable, Mary Ann Ford, Judy Freund, Pat Kuhn, Pat Rosing, and Peg Whiting; freshmen, Marilyn Watson,. Dianne Pieroni, Sandi Sells, Jean Selsdorf, Judy DeCicco, Dianne Munson, Marcia Anderson and Nancy Swanson. Science Club At the last meeting, the members of the Science club saw a movie entitled, "The Solar Family," followed by an Interesting discussion. The next meeting was planned for Wednesday, Dec. 17, at which there was another discussion, thia time entitled "Spao| Jp»- veL** • Christmas Vmcatioift Everyone, is rejoicing because Christmas is coming and that means a short vacation from school. This year, our vacation will begin right after school, Tuesday, Dec. 23, and will last until Monday, Jan'. 5. During, the noon hotirs, there is such music. And, also, there usually is a short announcement from one of the Stude^jt Council members, urging the students to to the Crystal Ball dance. Student Council News At the Student Council meeting on Dec. 12, the main topic was the Crystal Ball. The Silver Derby band will furnish the music for the dance. / Many of the council members were busy Friday, decorating the Christmas tree that the council purchased as part of the decorations for the dance. ' We would like to invite any alumni who will be home from college to the dance. Some of the committees for the dsnce are: Publicity, -Ruth Schaefer and Doris Bauer, and refreshments, Mary Nye and Peggy Whiting. To encourage more couples to go to the dance, a prize will be given to >the class having the largest representation. The council ..decided to send Christmas cards to, the high school teachers. Mary Nye was appointed to send them. A new freshman boy will be elected to the council in the place of Alii Freund, who has left school.
