McCullom Lake Mews \ Mrs. Linda Betta • ':^&wak'. Poledna, president pf the Cullom-Knoll association, would like to extend his sincere «t wishes to the officers and trustees and members of the club for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. - The membership of the club to date is 100 members and the future out-look for the new .year looks very promising. It is a wonderful, feeling to see more and more residents joining our fold, and we sincerely hope that many of those who are not as yet members, will soon join us, and make us unanimous in one body, thereby enabling us^ t-*> tftko care of the upkeep 6Ur community ourselves. Thank* you. Our little community really iprouted""' out with the yuletide spirit last week with their lovely displays of lighted outside Christmas trees and lighted wreaths. Mrs. Gertrude Makofske has adorned her miniature ranch house with a lovely lighted Christmas tree in the front of her home. Going up Lake Shore Drive, we behold the beautiful thr^e outside Christmas trees all lit up in front of the Matzat residence. Further down, we see Christmas lights around doorways, and then we come upon a sight that is truly breathtaking to behold. This lovely sight is a huge Christmas tree lit with about 250 lights and stands very proudly across from the Frank Howard, V Sr., residence. It is truly wonderful to drive around the subdivision in the evening and see the many lovely displays. Drive around and see for yourself, folks. Mrs. Harry Lock has heard in the last two letters received from her daughter, Mrs. Ercelle Richardson, who is living with her husband and daughter. Sue, in southern Japan, that Ercelle has become a Gray Lady and is> rendering her services two day? a week in a hospital nearby. "Hie boys sent to this hospital are the wounded from Korea, and Ercelle, together with many other volunteer young women, are doing their part to boost the morale of these boys. As we all know, this many times does more than medicine can. These Gray Ladies write home for the boys, read to them, or play cards, and help wherever they can. She is -also secretary-treasurer of the non-commissioned officers' club, which put all together, makes her quite an "eager beaver". We're all very proud of you, Ercelle, keep up the good work, and God bless ytm. She also writes of a beautiful church of all denominations nearby, where their daughter, Sue, attends Sunday School. The children there are preparing a Christmas play, which will make it seem like they aren't away from home after all. May we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy B a b y M u r r a y W a t k i n s s u r prised his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Watkins, of Hickory Creek Farms, when he arrived on Dec. 1, the day of their eleventh wedding anniversary. The Holiday Spirit To many persons, the ap* proaching holidays mean Htt!e a day or two away from work --a wish for the hurry and bustle to be over. But to the preponderance of people all over the world, the Christmas holidays loom as »a very special time--a time to share and distribute ^happiness wherever possible. And this is the way it should be, for happiness begets radiance and warmth of spirit, the educational committee of the Illinois State Medical society observes in Health Talk. Children are naturally happy. Only watch them at play to see their utter joy in simple amusemen. A boy with a dog, or a girl with a doll--simple, yes„ but theirs to enjoy. But adults are - inclined to become cynical with added years. Worries, frustrations and responsibilities become burdensome and submerge the natural buoyancy of holiday spirit. Holiday preparations take time and energy, the shopping must be done and last minute chores accomplished. And so involved all 'this becomes that the real meaning of happiness is forgotten. The Christmas tree. gaily wrapped packages and special things to eat all make up a holiday, but something else must be St&jx Accidents Are Costly - GREEN STREET BOLGER'S DRUG STORE PHONE 40 HcHENRY, ILL. Don't let illness or accident mar your holidays. Don't force yourself to do one more chor£, because it may be that one last effort that will place you at the breaking point too tired to enjoy yourself, much less to spread cheer to those who love you. And it's not fun for them if you'rt sick. 4 What about toys? .Did you remember that some can be dangerous in tiny, unthinking hands? The rifle with its pointed muzzle. How could you know that it would be used to penetrate a child's eye? Or that the little girl with her inquisitive fingers would loosen the brightcolored beads serving as eyes for her beloved teddy ' bearer and swallow them? „ .... To be sure fyou dicn't anticipate these accidents, but when buying the toys if you had only considered those instead that couldn't have been harmful in active little handis. And then your good health of mind ? Are you too tired from all your activities" to be mentally alert ? Have you forgotten that a calm and serene spirit can enthusiastically spread hapof anything; whether it is food, drink or faulty attitudes, can spoil the holiday spirit rather than enhance it. Make your holiday time a happy time. But remember, too, the Christmas season has special meaning, regardless of your creed. Why else would it be called a holiday? While the word means an exemption from labor, a day of rest or diversion, Its derivation stems from two words meaning holy day. Let the approaching festive season be full of happiness for you and your loved ones, free from illness and accident. And that your happiness will spread its warmth to others.'fr-i The result will be a truly, happy!, holiday for everyone.
