It's too fast a league. Last week we planned out three victories for Coach Cliff ' ^•Ulton--Just like that. He brought his team through with i out of 3 and that's a pretty good butting average in *ny league. 2 Beating Zion-Benton , iiight was a real crowd ^That's beating a good ball club-- The loss was to Libertyville m Saturday night. Hie winners finished strong in this one while our boys looked all tired out in the final period. Guess it would make anybody tired trying to Hefend against that shooting. But, their was no evidence of fatigue at Marengo Tuesday night in a real good battle* The Warriors weren't to, be stopped Tuesday night at Marengo as they fought nip and tuck fbi4 three quarters then forged ahead to a 71 to 60 victory. Marengo took an early 8 to 2 lead before the McHenry five could get organized. Leading 20 to 17 at the quarter mark, it looked like the McHenry boys were on their way. But, basketballs still take funny bounces. At half time it was Marengo in the jlead, 35 to 33. Fortunes changed again the third period when the Warriors went ahead 52 to 48. It didn't take Marengo long to tie it up in the fourth period, but that 'was their last serious bid. Free Throws Help Each team scored five baskets In the fourth quarter, but McHenry sank 9 free jthrows against 2 for the losers who were fouling in a desperate attempt to get ahold of the ball. While all due credit goes to the boys who take the rough gong under the boards, the game still pays off on joints and that brings us up to special mention of a couple of shanpshooters for McHenry. John Bolger broke his previous record by scorching the nets for 11 btiskets and 5 free throws--a total of 27 points. Hitting mostly from the fringe of the Marengo zone, John drove John Bolger was sharp in •coring 27 points besides showing a good team spirit in feeding the ball to a mate when possiUi. Loren Freund gave the team a big lift. He was in for' Stan Aim, who was injured at LVbertyville. Loren scored 20 paints and looked like the kind of player he was tabbed for as a member Of the J. The half ended with the Eventual winners ahead 32 to 30. The last half found the Warriors tiring, shooting short of the basket and in a general let-dowq. While this was happening, the home team found new life and shots were sinking from all sides. It was that bouncing Jim Pinkstaff and his 21 points that caused the most trouble for McHenry. Then came Doug Kay with his eye on the basket in the last half to run up 18 points. McHenry's big fellows, r~Ford and Davidson, were unable** to do much in the scoring column. Ron started strong, but the defense was soon set to stop his efforts. And, besides, four fouls early in the garhe took him out for a chance to took it over.
