Each spring in the past, it has been the Museum's custom to present a wries of free public lectures on subjects of current interest under the auspices of the Chicago Technical Societies Council. Although these lectures have been successful, from the standpoint of attendance, it has been felt that something was always lacking in a lecture hall presentation in a museum noted for its dynamic exhibit techniques. So this spring, starting on Sunday, May 3, and continuing on successive Sundays for five consecutive weeks, the lectures will be given in exhibit a,reas related to the subject matter thus affording a proper background as well as visual aid materials for demonstration. Discussions will be relatively brief and will be given several times. Each topic, of course, is presented by* experts in the field and ample opportunity will be given for answering questions. „ The regular times scheduled for these lecture-demonstrations will be at intervals between *:30 and ones will be gtvaa'iua attendance. Topics and follows: Sunday, May 17: "The Naval Torpedb' ed by Lieutenant jg., Jafefe M. Hansen, and Ensign J|mes L. Bonde, both of Naval Ordnance, Sunday, May 24: "The Big Heart Dr. Arthur Q. Muldftf, and chairman of the of physiology, Loyotfc Medical School. Sunday, May 31: "The Periodic fcyaUm" presented by Dr. Wtfd V. tantne, department of chemist??, of Arts and Sdtoc#*, University. Plans for building a buzzard trap can be obtained through Ike local eotdlty •cent.. By Rep. Harvey Republican, Eighth District Illinois tenants will have some protection from hardship when and if Congress allows rent controls to die. The Legislature has provided for stays of eviction of nine months, with a rent increase for landlords of not more than 10 percent during that period. The measure had the support of Gov. William G. Stratton and was carried through the House by Majority Leader Franklin Stransky. The House decided on that measure rather than allowing •'home rule" on extension of rent controls. I pointed out in the debate that while probably 95 percent of the communities in our district would not avail themselves of the extension privilege, it might prove helpful to those adjacent to the Great Lakes and fltort Sheridan military centers. We also approved a bill which eliminates the compulsory retirement tola for state employees reaching the age of 70. This was done on the recommendation of the Pension. LAWS Commission, of which I am a member. Bills jeopardizing teacher tenure, which have caused a good deal of concern throughout our district, appear to have been defeated. The House education committee tabled this proposal for an "open season"' on teachers every ftve years. Among the most important issues the Legislature will decide this session is the question of revising our judicial system. I am a sponsor of the House resolution for a proposed amendment to the Constitution aimed at bringing our courts system up to date. It is the result of two years of study by a joint Legislative commission and has the active support of the Illinois State and Chicago Bar associations. Judge Bernard Decker, Lake county circuit judge, was one of several highly-respected officials who explained the plan at a dinner meeting iij ,j|pjt-ii^gjttel4 last week. V inating and by allowing Court to move judge* tMmorairily into buafeJ^ circuits titan their*/ might be.
