Sonny Miller was extra sha<g> on <this occasion, but tired at the finish and had to have help from A1 Bookman. At that, he might have been out of the woods if an infield error fhadn't gummed up the works in the last inning. Class D was won by Pearl Miller and Millie Hinspater was second. On June 7th it will be ladies guest day and a Peoria system will govern play that day. Last week McHenry Country Clubs golf pro, Julius Goffo gave pointers on putting so this week he tells how to read a green when putting. Readings green means to find which way (he grass grows. For example, nm your hand over a rug, back and forth. If your hand glides along smoothly, you are with the grain or the nap of the rug, but when your hand comes back there is more resistance. Therefore you have a. condition of against the grain or the nap. This is important in putting. Down hill putts are usually with the grain and don't need to be hit hard for they roll easy and brceak to the lkt. Uphill putts have to be hit harder to maintain their course and have a tendency to break to the right. Group instructions in gSlt for the Junior Class at McHenry C.C. supervised by Mr. Goffo will start at 3 o'clock Friday, June 3rd. Tony Zale, former light heavy weight ^hampion, was a mixed up kid last Sunday. He was to play with the Chicago Amvets and Frank Falbo at Chapel Hill but lost his way. However, he showed up late and had dinner at' the Falho home. Some of the local boys were seen practicing at the Hi-Ho golfing range. Who was that attractive girl blasting sand trap shots and pitching wedge shots off the turf, Bernie? She really had a beautiful swing. I guess practice makes perfect. All activities over Decoration Day will be reported- next week from all courses.
