If you. are, why? You don't fe&l well. You want to feel, better, yet' when requested to undergo certain laboratory tests to help your' physician in his diagnosis, you dread the results. This is not wise for it inspires fear and delay forestalls relief, the educational committee of the Illinois State Medical society observes in a ,health talk. If your car is not functioning properly, you want to know why; if your television set lacks clarity, you want to. know why. But when there is some deviation in the smooth running of the vast complex machinery of your body, you delay in seeking the answer. You put off seeing your physician, and when you do, you resent the tests sometimes needed to aid the diagnosis. In these days of modern living, tests form a concomitant part of development. The food we eat, the clothing we wear and the vehicles we use for transportation all undergo rigid trials before they are marketed. Why, then, be afraid of tests to keep your life in good repair? Or, if illness strikes your good, health, why be afraid to learn the reason? Many of us resent the urinalysis required > as part of the physical examination for life insurance. Yet the insurance companies must make certain applicants do not have diaibetes or nephritis. Blood pressure apparatus is used to determine whether the applicant has hypertension. Persons with these conditions may be refused life insurance or be required to pay higher premiums. Perhaps we are afraid of laboratory tells because theiir re- Church of the Holy iFamily (Episcopal) Rt. 59 and Grand Ave. .Fox lake Hills 9:00 Holy Eucnarist and Sunday School 11:00 Morning Prayer Shop at Home and SAVE! Blood chemistry, bacteriologic examination of the . stools, tests to determine conditions of the eye, x-ray studies, tissue examination and basal metabolism tests are among the numerous diagnostic aids available to your physician. All are not employed to tell the story, but one or several may be needied: ta solve your • specific problem.. Some tests can be performed in the physician's office. More complicated ones can be done in a hospital or private laboratory. Rememlber that your physician's chief interest is you. Your good health is important to him. So don't be afraid of tests. When your doctor asks for one, join him in his eagerness to know the cause of your distress. HIGHWAY, SAFETY TO BE ASSISTED BY MEW: VISION TEST In another move to keep highway- safety first in Illinois, Secretary of State Charles F. Carpentier has announced adoption of fc new test to- measure the "behind- the- wheel" vision of all applicants for Illinois driver's licenses. Thp test started Dep. 1 as part of. the state's continuing campaign. for increased highway safety. All drivers licensing examination stations are expected to be equipped by Jan. 1. "Highway safety, declared Secretary Carpenitier, "begins with your eyes. We hope by means of this test to inform new drivers of vision deficiencies related to driving before they endanger themselves and others on the road." A new machine measures the important functions of vision, such as sharpness, depth perception, color perception and ability to recognize vital roadside cues. Tests can also be understood by those unfamiliar with English, illiterates and other whose scores may be adversely influenced by language problems. Th6 Illinois Driver OnthorRajter is "the first sufeh machine to adapt the results of years of rer search to tiie' needs of driverexamining. Secretary Carpentier pointed out, "It should be emphasised that this test is by no means a substitute for 4. professional eye examination. Those who do not meet our standards will be referred to their own eye care specialists for, the prescription of glasses or othej* visual care. They may. then, return for a license re-examination." The test wiii apply only to new license applicants at first, but may be extended later to renewals, Secretary Carpentier announced. Classified Ads bring results. Place yours with the Plaindeaier d*y.
