Mrs. John Relihan-- Friends and relatives werfc shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Mrs. Bridget Relihan at her home in this city Friday, Jan. 9, 1931. No illness was apparent when she was last seen by her relatives and when her lifeless body was found by her brother the shock was indeed a sad one. PARK VISITORS 'Th estate parks and memorials of Illinois attracted over 9,500,000 visitors during 1955, on the basis of unofficial figures refeased by the division of parks. Glen D. Palmer, director of conservation, expressed gratification over this demonstration of" popular interest. Excessively hot weather in July and August and the early onset of cold weather this autumn are believed to have kept the total park attendance from passing the ten million jn&rk. New Salem state park, with 908,460 visitors, was the top place in drawing power. Lincoln's Tonrb ranked fifth, while Lincoln's Home was eighth. EDDIE the EDUCATOR says Items of Local Interest-- Sleighing is fairly good at this time but few are taking advantage of same. •< M. M. Niesen, the Centerville grocer, is again able to be at 1 Mrs. George Donavin, 30 years his place of business after a siege I old, died at St. Anthony's hos- Mrs. George Donavirt-- of illness. F. E. Covalt, local manager of the Wilbur Lumber company, has invested in a Ford touring car, purchased through the home agent, John R. Knox. Ostend Items-- It has been proved without a doubt that a barefoot team on an icy hill cannot pull a load any better than an automobile without gas. Ernest Brott is nursing a very sore nose. He had a tussle with a stick of wood. The wood came out best. It was not broken, but his nose was. When Myron Francisco was drying to Borden's with milk one day last week a trace came unhooked and on account of the ice the wagon lurched, throwing him over the dash board to the frjgzen ground. He called out "Wlioa" to the team after one wMeel had passed -over his limb. Th'ey stopped, then- started up, strewing the milk, of which he had fifteen cans, in every direction. He was not seriously injured. Gage Property Sold-- A deal was consummated this week whereby IF. H. Wattles, the West Side livestock dealer, has come into possession of the last piece of land owned by the Gage estate. Mr. Wattles' purchase includes the old Gage house on the corner of Main and Center streets, together with about fiftyfive cares of land, which includes the famous old race track property. Thus the last strip of the Gage property passes from the*, ownership of the estate, which at one time comprised very nearly the entire West Side of town, and which originally was named Gage town. A bit of interesting history is connected with the property. Gagetown first sprang into existence upon the arrival of Mr. Gage and the railroad. George Gage owned the site of the town and was instrumental to quite an extent in securing the railroad. pital, Chicago, Tuesday night, Jan. 13, after an illness of about three weeks. Michels-VanHeirseele-- A pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Mary's church on Saturday, Jan. 10, when Miss Laura Michels, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Michels of McHenry, and Mr. Ray VanHeirseele of Waukegan were united in marriage.
