Mary Jean Bertier and Barbara LaGreca » were co-hostesses with Mrs. Hay, ~ Tfther guests present were Pat Berner, Helen Reuter, Sharon Hemey, Barbara Fiala, Delores Falkenthal, Ora Parker and Mrs. F. Kengrigan. Several -guests who were invited, were- unable to attend. Those were Mary Ruggero, Neva Fuhrer, Jeannie Hay And Ann Lundborg. A useful gift was presented Miss Kendrigan by the group of friends. Miss Kendrigan has left her position as nurse in the office of Dr. Ruggero to make a career in the U.S. Army. Come and Dance . Don't forget the " Valentine dance to be held at the Legion hall on Saturday Feb. 11. Refreshments will be served and all proceeds will be put into a special building fund. Legion Meeting The regular monthly meeting will be held at 8 on Feb. 14 at the Legion hall. Several important items are to be discussed and voted upon. All members are urged to attend this meeting. Christ the King Church News Sunday masses are at 8, 10 and 11:30 a.m. Daily mass is at S a.m. Confessions are heard Saturdays from 7 to 8 p.m. or until all are heard and on first Fridays at 7:45 a..m On Wednesday, Feb. 15, Fr. Vanderpool will distribute ashes to all present after the daily 8 a.m. mass. N.C.C.W. The National Council of Catholic Women had a very interesting meeting at the home of Mrs. Estelle Mendyk on Thursday, Feb. 2. After the business meeting, a short talk was given by Mrs. Marie Bartz about the organization of the block Rosary. Mrs. Stella Wasieleski filled in for Mrs. Nelson, who was scheduled to give instructions on the mass prayers. Mrs. Wasielewski read two spiritual articles, one on gossip or sing of the tongue, the other on family unity. Coffee and, cake were served, during which the ladies enjoyed visiting with one another. The N.C.C.W. will have a bake sale in the back of the church on Sunday, Feb. 12, before and after each mass. All bakery goods will be home-made and reasonably priced. Holy Name Meeting "Ehfe1 Holy Name men of Christ the King church will meet on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 8:30 p.m. in the home of their new vice-president, John Gustek. The members eiected new officers for 1956 at their last meeting. The. new officers are: President, Jay Stendeb$ ck; vice-presideht, Johti Gustek; .treasurer. George Burns; secretary, Ray Machalinski; marshal, John Rice. The newly elected officers extend an invitation to all the men of the parish to join their'-growing organization. Fr. Sunday afternoon, Feb. 12, from 2 until 5, there will" be a Brotherhood workshop of the Chicago conference at Christ Lutheran church in Chicago. All men of the church interested in attending these interesting and educational sessions on Brotherhood work are invited to attend. Cars will leave the church at 12:30. The Luther League will have its Valentine party Feb. 12 at the church at 7. All yoUng people are invited and asked to bring a comic valentine. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 7:30, a new adult discussion class will begin. This class will be confirmed into church membership on March 18. All interested in joining the cnureh are invited. Wednesday, Feb. 15, is Ash Wednesday and Mid-week Lenten services begin. All the Wednesday evening services daring Lent will be held at 7:45 p.m. A special series of sermons will be delivered at these services, the over-all theme being "The Time of Your Life." The junior choir will sing at the Ash- Wednesday service. Scouts of the church are urged to attend. March of Dimes Mothers at the Lake marched Tuesday, Jan. 31, for the March of Dimes and collected a total of $447.56. Mr. and Mrs. Boh Parker served refreshments at the ice cream parlor that evening for the women and Mrs. Anna Bor* ches, Mrs. Betty Fiala and Mrs. Parker baked cakes and pastries. In the Nativity Lutheran church the Scouts will be honored at the 10:45 service. Several founders of the work at the Lake were present: Mr. and Mrs. Franklin and son of Park Ridge, S. J. Sivensen of Lincolnwood and Morris T. Ness and son of Winnetka. The Women's Guild is sponsoring a special service in the church Tuescray evening, Feb. 14, for the purpose of raising funds through a free will offering to-. ward their pledge to "our missionaries" in the Belgian Congo. Films of Jack and Flora Loshbough, the missionaries who are now in Badja Baija, Africa, will be shown. These films show their sojourn in Belgium and their tri]3 to Switzerland and a tape recording will give an explanation of the many places* of interest. Their daughter, little Janniemae, will have a part in these films, too. Refreshments will be served At a recent meeting of the C.Y.O., elections were held and the following' offices elected: Carl Walker, president; Kay Clark, vice-president; Judi Kolar, secretary; and Rich Anderson, treasurer. This group is planning a Valentine dance to be held at Harrison school Feb. 11, from 7:30 to 10:30. Music will be .provided by records and cokes will be served. All 'teen-agers are invited. It was decided to divide the girls into five groups for easier handling. The advisors are Mrs. Letizia, Who will teach handicraft, Mrs. Corcoran, who will instruct ballroom and tap dancing, and Mrs. Rice and Mrs. Walker will vtork together on sewing and cooking. The group A Helping Hand Mrs. Joseph Corcoran of Wonder Center has found how friends and neighbors rally to help someone in need. Saturday, Jan. 21, as Mrs. Corcoran and her daughter were enjoying a movie in McHenry, the interior of their car was badly damaged by fire. The .firemen determined the cause to be combustion from the heat of clothing Mrs. Corcoran had picked up from a laundry. The 62 pounds of clothing, which were all damaged beyond salvage, consisted mostly of children's and infants' clothing. The damage to their one-year-old car was estimated to be between $800 and $900, As soon as her neighbors heard of her loss they passed along the word and soOn clothing began to be received by the Corcoran family. They are very grateful and happy to know so many people are interested and willing to help in emergencies. Happy Birthday Billy Whitfield of Wooded Shores was 5 years old Feb. 5. On Saturday, Feb. 4, he invited a few friends to help him celebrate with a party.
