As a result of this story a magazine writer contacted the Adams family and is doing a story about their trip. The Northern lllini Bowmen &re planning many interesting Photo by Rudy Bryant events for the public and their members. On March 10, Irene Adams will be interviewed on radio about the club. On March 18, the Illinois Archery Association will hold their annual banquet and convention at the Leland Hotel, Aurora. Duke Adams will go as a delegate in the Bow-hunting division. Several shoots are being planned, among them one for a Polio benefit to be held sometime this spring. Watch the McHenry Plaindealer sports page for all the Bowmen highlites. SECOND HALF SENDS FROSH-SOPH OFF AND WIMGIN' AT ZION It took McHenry'a Frosh-Soph basketball team the whole first half to come out of the fog they had encountered on the way to Zion last Friday night, but the second half found them plenty sharp as they romped to a 49-27 victory. The McHenry team led 7 to 4 at the quarter, then were outscored 12 to 10 in the second stretch. Coach Cuda either fed the boys some salty words of advice or energy packed lumps of sugar between halves. Anyhow, the boys played basketball the way they have shown all season. MARRIAGE (LICENSE George K. Watson and Frances a4,Its-r>' boll, of Mc- RARE PLANT LIFE Ever see a plant called the "Kankakee Mallow," with a bloom somewhat like that of a hollyhock? Or an "Aster Chasei," a member of the aster plant family? Or the tiny, orchid-like plant known as the "Thismia Americana?" According to Dr. Glenn S. Winterringer, curator of botany at the Illinois Etate Museum, these three plants are noteworthy, • among the approximately 2,450 species of higher plants in Illinois, as being the only three that are to be found only in the Prairie State. The possibility that a number of plant species so far undiscovered in Illinois may yet be found in the southernmost sections of the state is suggested by the museum botanist. He regards the unglaciated region comprising the countries <5f Union, Saline, Gallatin, Johnson, Pope, Pulaski, Hardin, Massac and Alexander as best suited for rare plant life.
