We are now certain ,*that the fellow who polit'ely ^\yaits for you to back out of "your parking space is looking for a place to park. At this writing the White Sox lost a close game to Baltimore and the Cubs lost a close, one to the Giants.^ We can't prove a thing,1 but the long rest >jnay have made the Sox rusty and the Cincinnati series may have tired the Cubs. The Shamrocks were rained . out last Sunday, but hope to journey to Johnsburg next Sunday afternoon for a practice game with the Tigers. The county league schedule opens May 13 so your sport page will carry the schedule from Week to week. Reminder -- That show on wheels will take place this (Thursday) night at the local roller rink. Those young boys and girls would be so happy if you woUld attend. Each year we look forward to joining the Forester bowlers in wrapping ourself around a fine steak at Mi Place. We didn't even throw out a hint and their president, George "Junior" Freund, came up with what our maternal grandmother used to term an "invite." County Tournairierit Winners Singles E. The McHenry High baseball team played Crystal Lake to a 4^4 tie last week in a game that had to be called. Gene Freund and Caldwell hooked up in a pitching duel on Monday in a game that was won by Warren, 2 to 0. Unfavorable weather has put a crimp in practice sessions for the high school teams and hitting seems to be on the weak side. McHenry (4) AB R H Huff ss . 4 2 1 Freund p 3 0 1 B. The rocks and other big underwater obstructions under the two bridges will be sunk down when the dredging 1s~done. We saw quite a number of boats get "hung up" under the bridge near the city hall last summer. A couple of shear-pins can be vouched for by personal experience. We picked up some new nylon rope for our boat the Other day. It is supposed to be extremely rot-resistant and does not have to be replaced often. Bass fishing should start,, soon The weather has been a little too cool for fishing but by the end of the month the crappies and bass should start hitting. Irene Adams sent us a note the other day. She says the Northern Illini Bowmen plan on carp shooting this month. An award will be given for the biggest one. Six trucks and thirty boys worked from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. to gather a total of approximately 10 tons of paper. If anyone was missed in this drive we are sorry but we did the best we could to contact all donors. We of Troop 164 are thankful to the people for their cooperation in this drive. It is wonderful to feel that we have such nice neighbors. The next paper drive will be held in the fall, so 'til then we say, "Thanks again to everyone." -- Scouts of Troop 164. Read the Want Ada. Yep. It was a nice party and you could travel far and not be served the likes of that meal. Ask George Justen. McHENRY RECREATION 1 Blks North of Hiway 120 - East of the Old Bridge PHONE McHENRY 350 HERE AND THERE WITH GOLF * By Jimmy Kupec On Tuesday of last week, our golfing Warriors of McHenry high school were as cold as the weather. The lads travelled to Barrington and lost 10-0. As a five man team they were 12 strokes down at the end of the match and if our memory is correct it was really cold. Art Beck had 46, his opponent 43, Bob Cable 46, opponent 45, Jim Justen 48, opponent 46, Larry Corey 50; • bpponent 45, Matt Eichinger 51 and his opponent 50. These scores are for nine holes. On Thursday the boys journeyed, to Lake Forest high and, with the weatherman cooperating, the squad tied the highly rlspected and talented youths from Lake Forest 5-5. Larry Corey won his match 44 to 46 as did 'Bob Cable 45 to 49. Matt Eichinger did very well by breaking even with his match 41 to 41, but Jim Justen and Art Beck lost their matches 48 to 44 and 44 to 36. With the weather showing signs of a warm trend and a few matches played at home, the team should finish high in the standing upon completion of the schedule. With all local golf tourses bemoaning the heavy and steady downpour of rain over the weekend, there is no news to report. But, I did witness a foursome going down the first fairway at McHenry C.C. Sunday morning in the cold rain. Won't mention any names. I bet they know how fish live in water after that five hole jaunt. x Tuesday, the Ladies' Golf association of McHenry C.C. had their first golf day of the new season and had 28 ladies present. The event of the day\was blind bogey. The winners in Class "A" were Joan Buss and Bev Rourke. Class "B" first prize -went to Lill Stilling and second prize to Carmen Antonson. Class "C" had Millie Jackson on top. Next Tuesday's event "for the day will be low putts. ,. An item in the Toronto Telegram advertised: "Golf dlubs -- Must sell or get divorce." This was picked up an<J/headed: "You know, he's going to miss her, too." Northern Illini Bowmen News Sunday's rain and chilly temperature didn't dampen the spirits of the NX Bowmen when their first club shoot was held as scheduled. Winners were: Men Expert Duke Adams, McHenry; Bowmen -- Van Graham, Chicago, and Jack Perry, Lake Villa; Archer -- Carl Siebold, Chicago, Bob Mueller, Chicago; Novice -- Norb Adams, McHenry; Free Style -- Bob Seymour, Crystal Lake.
